truck is sitting in my drive with half the dash out in the middle of an evaporator change out. how do I break apart the A/C connections? how do they go back together? I have removed the aluminum clips... . everything else is ready to go, just waiting on removal of connections. (have evacuated the system)

thanks

You need a special AC\Fuel line disconnect tool. There are two different sizes required. Some parts\tool stores sell them as a set or you may be able to borrow them from an AC or repair shop. I'm not sure if places like NAPA will loan them or not.

There is a round garter spring that keeps the connector locked together, and the tool will expand it allowing the connector to come apart.

To put them back together, replace the "O" rings (must be R134A compatable),and they just snap together. You will hear a click, and you should not be able to pull them back apart.

Condenser changeout

I had a hole in my condenser a few weeks ago and put a new one in. I ran into the same problem with getting these things off while stuck in my driveway. My local NAPA had a Ford fuel fitting disconnect tool that worked well for about $15. Had 4 different sizes depending on how you held it.

yeah, I bought one of those at my local Carquest. didn't work so well for me. had to go to my local O"Reily and get a different style.
