What has been the best way you have found to buy fuel?

I buy at any truckstop fueling ports. they go through the fuel fast so it is always fresh. look for a place that is always busy and you won't go wrong. stay away from the small texacos and such with one pump for diesel, no telling how old that diesel is #ad

Brobeson, How do you become a member of Pacific Pride. They have just put in a facility that's part of where I normally fuel up. Is there a minimum use or membership fee?

Alan,

Check out Pacific Pride. Not sure on Pacific Pride, but CFN is supposed to be commercial accounts only. CFN has no fee or minimums on diesel, but Oregon requires you to pump 2400 gallons a year to get gasoline. Currently that is being reviewed at the legislature, and I think they are looking at dropping that down to 900 gallons a year. Oregon is different though, these minimums are in place because it is illegal to pump your own fuel at retail outlets in Oregon.

I will say that while I think the local CFN fuel quality is excellent, the price does not always seem to be competitive. Yesterday I asked and it was at $1. 689. I know prices are up locally, but I think there is some places that retail is cheaper. Interestingly enough, I know the quick mart up the street sells fuel from the same distributor that has the CFN franchise locally. The quick mart is usually the same price or cheaper than the CFN price. Personally, I would think the card locks would always be cheaper, it is after all a totally automated process. Either the local retailers are eating some of the costs, or CFN is screwing me, I haven't figured out which yet, but in any event CFN typically saves me very little if any money. You also seem to pay more at CFN when on the road. About 2 months ago I filled up at a CFN in Grants Pass, Oregon. There happened to be a Chevron station out front, with the card lock behind the building. Both were very new facilities. I jotted down the retail price of the Chevron, to compare to my CFN bill when it came. Lo and behold the CFN price was $0. 10 or $0. 11 (can't remember which, now) higher per gallon. My guess is that they were supplied by the same oil company, probably pumping out of a common tank. You just need to be careful, not having a pump price posted at the card locks is not good, but I have never seen the price at any of them. Locally they change the price once a week based on the latest price they paid at the terminal they buy from in Portland, OR.

Probably more than you wanted to know, I know it is more than I wanted to write #ad

Best way to buy diesel is to have it delivered and put it your own storage tank.

I dunno about other places, but CA must be different than OR. The company that supplies our furnace fuel is also the CFN dealer in Humboldt Co. , CA. My wife just called them up and they sent us a card since we already have an account with them. No other requirements such as minimum usuage as far as I know. I get gas for her car and D2 for my truck. Most of the places I've stopped at have a moveing display on the card machine that shows the price, some don't. So far, it's been equal or cheaper than the pump prices at stations near by. For example, it was $1. 80 at the Texaco in Williams and the CFN price was $1. 69. $1. 70 at the truck stop in Eureka and $1. 61 at CFN the last time I fueled up. Gas for my wife's car was . 30 cheaper!!!!

Koa Man,

Of course you aren't using any out of that tank for the Ram. Must have a Highway tank you didn't show us.

also on CFL statements if you look you'll see the taxes are listed on a different columes. . state, fed, local. . so you have to add across to find the total price per gallon. . no biggie just an fyi. .
Flying J down in the valley is always at least 10/15 cents a gallon lower than the mountain ripoff price, and CFL is also lower than mountain price CFL but not competative with Flying J . . [that's why I got a Transfer Flow now have a 90 gal cap. and can time my fueling stops]

Pacific Pride here!
Card Locks are the only way to go if you want to pump your own fuel in Oregon.
I pulled into AM/PM one day to fill up the Quad and the Pump Monkey opened the gas tank door and attempted to put Gasoline in my truck... wow I have never left the drivers seat so fast in my life. I almost tore the guys head off. Oregon is so screwed up, they dont trust the average person to pump their own fuel, but they will let a highschool drop out or migrant farm worker do it for you. Now Governor Kidsmacker is trying to take our income tax kicker away... why did I ever move to this state?

I'm a member of CFN and I am not commercial either. I just walked in off the street and asked for an application. I rarely use my CFN while I'm here near home. I mainly wanted it for trips and vacations that way I don't have to deal with another expense on the road. It is convenient, but the price is usually 10-20 cents higher than the Flying J which is where I usually fill up.

Who me? Would never think of doing such a thing. Road diesel actually fits in that tank and the petroleum company driver doesn't care if you ask him to pump road diesel in it. He just won't pump off-road diesel into a highway tank.

I'm going to be travelling through Oregon in late July when I head to and from Seattle. I've been through there once before, and had less than stellar service at the one fueling stop I had to make.

I've decided that I will stop and I will wait no more than thirty seconds for the pump dweeb to arrive and start putting the PROPER fuel in my truck. Once that passes, I will pump my own damn fuel, and if they try to do anything about it, I assure you that there will be an incident worthy of national news coverage.

I am quite certain that Oregon's you-can't-pump-your-own-fuel law would be deemed unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court.

I don't like being f---ed with, and nothing gets my blood boiling faster than stupid laws.

Rob

Most of the time, before I got my CFN card, I would pump my own anyway. I think on a gasser they get excited, but I have never had much problem on the diesel side. In fact, I have seen at least one station in the Portland area with a sign on the diesel pumps indicating they were self serve.

Thousand gallons at a time, I always get to pump my own and know what Im pumping into the truck. Don't remember ever draining any water out of the truck.
