On my 99 CTD the "turn the ignition switch on and off three times doesn't work" to view codes on the odometer. Is there a way I can check these codes on this truck that won't cost $500. 00? I remember on my 91 Lumina If I had a paperclip and shorted a couple wires in the diagnostic plug that I could get it to give up the codes. Is there any way to do anything like this with these trucks?

Thanks in advance

if you go to your nearesy autozone store, they will read your codes with their scanner for free

this info been posted on the TDR before, hope its true ;)

'98 & '99 are the only years that don't self test, a scanner is necessary.

I've also heard AutoZone is the place for free.

One of the techs at the local Dodge dealer told me the other day he has an Auto X-ray that he wants to sell for $150. Says it will check a lot of vehicles. If anybody is interested I can PM his number.

It was around $160 and will read from 86 to present. You can erase codes. It has a couple of other functions for gas engines, but works real nice on the truck. I think its a Acutron, heck I'll have to go check.

Autozone sells the actron scan tool and they will read your codes for you if the light is on but here in NH it is illegal for them to clear the codes my son worked there for 1. 5 years so i am sure they will do it for you

Here's a nice one and it comes with a little more power if you want it. Works a lot like the DRB for checking and resetting codes. It's a little more than the cheap code readers but they wont let you flash your ECM for a little more get up and go either.
