How do you keep the cat off your car

So I have a problem. My wifes cat loves to climb on the car that is in the garage. The problem is I just bought her a new van and it really ticks me off when the cat is on it.



Does anyone have some good (humane) ideas to keep the cat off.



It really is a good cat. The kids can pull its hair and drag it around and it just takes it. I just don't want my wifes new $35,000 van to have cat scratches all over it.

The cat probably likes to lay on the vents near the windshield and get that just driven comfy warmth. Maybe have something warm in the garage beside the van? Place it up high; cats like to be up high.

Any cats that I've ever had have been outside critters. Plus, if it's hangin' around inside the garage it might get run over.

Wal-Mart put up a new building on the other side of town out in the country. The old store wasn't close enough to the Interstate. The farm cats there at this new store climb up onto peoples cars and set atop the vents at the base of the windshield.

Try squirting it with a spray bottle with water in it when you catch it up there. A straight stream works best. After only 3 times with the bottle treatment, our cat was permanently cured of going up on the kitchen countertop. It might not work as well in the garage - or may take many more "treatments", but it's worth a try. After several times the cat may associate the van with negative feedback and may just stay off it all together. Plus, it's kind of fun target practice. :-laf

Actually, that is a tough one most of my cats never much took to being trained. They sort of considered humans and things that feed, pet and make buzzing noises.

I have been told that cats do not like to walk on tin foil. You could try putting tin foil on the car (I would put a towel down first) and see if it works. After a few days I would imagine that the foil could come off and the cat won't try again.



To keep cats off the countertop I have found that by putting a false edge on the counter such as cardboard and a small tin can with change in it works well. When the cat jumps up he pulls down the cardboard and can making enough noise to scare the crap out of him when the can and change hits the floor. Usually only once or twice is enough to perminantly stop future attempts.

Here is the answer. I read it on the internet and did'nt beleve it, until I had to try it on a visit to my in-laws in Macon Ga.



If they are getting on the hood, just lean a rack or shovel on the front.

Don't ask me why it works, but the first night 2 days I was there the cat was on the hood, after I leaned a rake on the car the cat stayed off.



But if it was at my house I would try the 17MHR first.

I use the sticky pad mouse or bug traps. After having them stuck to them a couple times they quit. Plus it was funny as H***. The first time I saw one on a trap he had 2 paws and his tail all stuck to it. That works as a good "HOBBLE" also :-laf .

The water trick works well! I had an issue with the dog pissin on my wheels so I hooked an electric fencer to the truck and it cured him real quick. No more lifted legs here!

I have the same problem with a cat on my wife's new Pilot. I just leaned a broom on the grill and should know in about 20min if this works.

You could also add a little Pine Sol to the water. Cats hate that stuff.



When I was stationed in Greece (Athens), there were cats everywhere. We had to put our garbage out by the street in plastic bags. The cats always made a heck of a mess until I got the bright idea of sprinkling a little Pine Sol on the bags when I put them out. After that, the cats would sniff the bag, sneeze, and walk away.



I can't imagine a cat would like having even a very weak solution of that stuff sprayed on them. A little goes a long way and if you keep it weak enough, it shouldn't hurt it.
