How do you know when it is time to replace/rebuild your injectors? Got about 209000mi. and as far as I know it still has the original injectors? Thanks.

2000 24V.

558,000kms. (347,000k) original injectors and vp-44. I would look for decrease mileage, increase black smoke, rough running, etc. as they wear the holes get bigger alowing more fuel to pass, the pop off pressure will decrease and fuel will not be atomized as well.

Fourbar hit the nail on the head on all counts. You can have weak injectors and never have major symptoms as well. Only way to know for sure is to remove them and have them tested. Not a big job at all, there is plenty of threads here on injector r&r.

id say that sums it up. i have a 12v i just replaced injectors on at 230k factory originals as far as i can tell. made a big difference in all points listed above. truck ran very well but sounds and runs better after.

For optimum engine performance injectors should be serviced every 100-150k. Flow tested, balanced, and pop tested.

Besides these symptoms if the injectors are wore can they make any abnormal sounds? I've been chasing an abnormal sound/clatter for the last few years or more on my 1995 truck that sounds like loose valves. I have re-adjusted the valves several times to no avail. I can only reproduce the clatter sound while driving, and seems worse when the engine is cold. I have also noticed more smoke from the exhaust, verified by the worsening emissions test report numbers since this noise started.
