Say you're running my truck (in sig. below), and you're at a stoplight w/ that ricer or duraslug sitting next to you. What do you do?

Do you build 10 lbs. of boost and launch in 2wd?

Do you just mash the go-pedal when the light turns?

Do you wait till you're rolling, then pull 4wd in, and go to the next stoplight and launch in 4wd so you don't just spin across the intersection w/ all that boost?

Just curious on how I should go about getting faster off the line, in just the stoplight to stoplight races.

What's your take on it?

Later, Josh.

Josh, the way i launch is not the best thing for transmission life, however it is the quickest way to launch your truck. Put the truck in 4wd,I I try to time the light, when its about to change, start to load up the truck, hold the brakes, and slowly build boost, holding the truck back,(warning this could break an output/input shaft,if you load it up to much, over 15psi usually). I try not to sit there for more than a few seconds with more than 5 psi, when you know the lights coming load it up to 10-15psi,and as soon as the light turns, let of the brake and mash it to the floor, watch the ricer dissappear in a cloud of smoke. With my truck and the 4. 10's if i launch over 18psi, i spin all 4 tires, and get soke wheel hop,so 15psi is the best for my truck. These trucks are brutally quick out of the hole, ive yet to have a ricer, even awd's hang with me thru the 1/8 mi.

see....

that's what I'm drastically paranoid of, is launching in 4wd w/ too much boost and destroying a shaft right then and there. If I had had the money, I would have all my shafts cryoed, but I just barely had enough to do my transmission by itself, so they were out of the question.

So, 4wd with 10 lbs of boost should be ok, huh? Gonna have to give it a whirl next time.

Any other ideas?

Josh.

Josh if you cant afford to break it,dont race it. I could actually leave fairly quick in 2hi,with my new tires, until i put the bd7''s in,now it re lights the tires in 2wd on the 1-2 shift, and spins them all the way thru 2nd,and makes the 2-3 shift still spinning:D . Now i need 4hi under 30mph or so. Like Bill K says, all output/input shafts are not created equal, some break at 10psi boost, thers hold up at 30psi. The billet shafts are the only true answer.

I had my transmission done almost a year ago by massdiesel. I belive back then dtt didnt have billet shafts available. Now I am left wondering, should I get the new shaft now or wait till it snaps. Does it just slide out when the transmission is pulled or do you have to tear into the insides of the transmission. Also when the shaft fails does it do any other $$damage$$? My truck is 400HP now and I plan on going to 450-500.

bad launch

ok guys here is one for you to help me with if you can my 02 will not spin the tires off the line even if i brake tourque the engine sounds like it is de-fueling it revs than it goes down like a rev limiter i have a fms box set it at 40% piers hx35 4" straight pipe stock trans i would love to burn the tires but it just sits there it only gets 8-10 lbs of boost please help me with any known fixes for this thanks you guys are great:eek:

Aharrow,

I wish I had some good news for ya but to be honest, I see this with every 02 so far. Seems like a new "safety feature" to protect the transmission or something. I CAN tell you, it doesn't matter which box either, they all do it.

safety feature

If there is a safety feature on the truck someone out there must have a way around it by now,I hope because this is embaressing bill at dtt said that jet pilot might know something about this so if you are out there it would be great to here from you.

My Y2K 3500 has an 'EZ', DD 2's, 4" exhaust and a DTT transmission. I cannot burn rubber unless mash it around a corner, but my '0-60' mph times avg. about 8 1/2 seconds. So I'm only mildly dissappointed.

Robby Ram,

You need to try harder and use the brakes.

Also, you need an Edge Comp (ez is only level 1 out of 5 on the Comp)

--Justin

Justin, you can't try any harder i can put the throttle to the wood with the brakes on the engine gets to about 2100 and it starts to defule nobody has found a way around this that i know of. :(

Can you say "250 foot burnout"

If I do not launch in 4hi, I will smoke em all the way into third locked. In 4 hi I did launch with 25 psi of boost and I smoked all 4. That is a little scarry. I am sure that it is not the rear discs. I can push through them with 8 psi. All I can say is add more fuel!

hey greg I have a 02 with fms set at 40% van aaken timing box piers hx35 and the truck will not turn the tires unless you are in a puddle of water the truck will defuel like its on a rev limiter it only lets you build about 8psi. of boost at about 2100 rpms i woul like to hear from someone with an 02 that does not have this problem:confused:

I haven' t been able to get my 02 to power-brake either. I was shocked the first time i tried it and it didn't break the tires loose. I figured with all the torque that the cummis makes it would be no problem to turn the tires.

I have a comp w/o pump wire and it still won't do it. I had chalked it up to a really weak transmission and good rear brakes, but now I'm wondering again.

If anyone knows of a solution... I would love to know what it is.

Thanks,

Chris

I know a guy with a new 2002 auto, and his truck will turn the tires with a little persuasion. It's still stock, so it won't burn 'em down, but it will spin 'em pretty good for a stocker (mine wouldn't stock)

John

c-hawk , without the pump wire you are short about 90 hp and a couple hunderd torque shy on power.

gee , now i'm glad i didn't tradefor an 02 , but then again , i don't try to do burnouts , tires are expensive

anyone call edge , DD or blue chip to get thier take on this ?

now this is strange , what are you guys seeing for max rpm at WOT shifts ? if i power brake to just 5 psi my truck will waste the tires .

any of you guys with 02's running bigger injectors ?

I had a 01, auto that wouldn't break them loose either. My solution, I sold the truck and bought a six speed from Dave Mitchell's brother. It will spin them about any time I want
