I was curious as to how many of the new Cummins 600 owners have owned a previous 2nd gen truck, more specifically '00-'02 years and how big of a difference does the performance of the engine compare with one of the mentioned years. I know the hp and torque numbers are larger and I'm sure you can tell the difference, but I would like real world figures. Are you able to go 65 mph over that steep grade now then instead of creeping over it?

I have had a 92, 93, 95, 96, 98(with Bully Dog), 01(with Bully Dog), 99 and now my 04. 5 600 and I cannot believe the power. I travel quite a few mountain passes around CO with around 1000 lbs. in the back and 65 mph is when I want to go slow. The 600 outdoes my chipped trucks hands down without any mods whatsoever.

To top off the engine power the brakes are a huge step up, the steering feels much better, the cab seals up as tight as a submarine, the headlights are actually bright and the ride is smoother. I couldn't be happier with the new truck.

Loaded up to just under 18,000 lbs GVW, my old '01. 5 ETC auto would get me 43 mph up the Brenda Mine hill and the 555 would get me up at 62 mph. The 600 has a little bit more power than the 555. In all fairness an 01 or '02 ETH would probably be closer to the 555 than to the ETC, but I see yours is an ETC. You should notice a healthy difference if your current truck is stock and the 600 will run with a mildly bombed 2nd gen.

It seems that a stock ETC dyno's at about 200 rwhp and a stock 600 dynos at about 280 rwhp. Your old truck with an EZ, intake and perhaps exhaust would be in the same ballpark as a new 600 IMO.

And not to forget... the 600 and the 6 speed is awsome for torque, acceleration and silence! Geeze, I can finally hear the windnoise.

I never had ANY problems with my 96, 98. 5 and 01. . so far I have had a few more problems with the 600. Nothing that others are not having as well ( Rear end noise)... I don't have the vibration though!!! I'm happy. I get 23 MPG unloaded Between 15-17 Loaded. 6 speed 4x2 3. 73. . that is better than my 01, but not quite as good as the 96. . 12 valve

I agree with rfoust and Dave. I had a stock (with the exception of a 4" exhaust) '01. 5 auto before and this new one is incredible. Granted, I was losing some torque with the auto, but I am so impressed with this truck. The lack of clatter, the added power, the better ride and drivability... There is nothing that's not better in these new ones IMHO. In real world terms, I can definitely tow faster up steep grades and not worry about burning up the transmission.

I'm impressed as well. Haven't pulled anything yet as I'm still in break-in mode, but empty accelleration is far superior to what I had.

My mileage when driving with the box on lower levels is usually about 16mpg.

Truck has great power, no complaints.
