Peter is a nice guy, if you are going to sled pull get the DD the FE or OFE will not hold up sled pulling with a turned up 913 and he will tell you that. Good Guy

If the previous post of overrated and overpriced is for an SBC unit... . hmmm... you get what you pay for! Yea, I coulda got a clutch from my commercial account at Carquest for a little over 1/2 what I paid for the SBC unit. BUT I didn't want a stock clutch... AND. . I'd rather not do a clutch job twice AND it wouldn't be rated for what I have.

Maybe he should go buy a centerforce or a few members in NW tried the Luk (this is what our stock clutches are made by) and got what they paid for in less than a year:{ After that they went to SB :D Peter is Da MAN :D

seems all the problems are with the 12 1/4" clutch. the 13" conversion is a must!!

the FE is a little grabby at times but if you give it a little more rpm on take off it smooths out. i had an ofe for a month and decided i wanted more hp than it would handle. the ofe felt like the stocker. the people here are proof enough as far as the clutches go. customer service was the first reason i bought SB. i had an issue with the input shaft and the bearing in the flywheel and he set me up with the upgraded one. when i go DD ill be callin peter.

I know a guy who also got a input shaft from SBC that failed. I know several people who do not care for any SBC products. A couple of them competaive pullers.

I just ordered a new con fe . before I swap it in should I change out the bearing to a us made bearing?. if so any one have part # for a us bearing to replace the one sb uses?

Thanks

Deo

I'd just use the one that came with the clutch. Why would SB provide an inferior part? They have their reputation staked on what they sell. Most everyone will say they have an excellent reputation.

Oh, if you do buy a different bearing, please send the other to me.

Mr. Diesel, I don't think you want the 66/14 combo for towing with a 12V. If your gonna be at 400HP you don't need that much charger. I sold a 62/12 to a guy with a 97 dually. He absolutely loves it. He liked it so much that he told me to have anyone that wants to discuss it to call him. He also has the FE. He tows heavy with 4. 10's. If your towing with the FE I would suggest the 2low kit. But at 400HP an OFE would be great. I am sure you need the new flywheel, as the EEP is cast iron(at least they used to be) and is machined for a DD application. I would suggest the 13-1. 375 con OFE if your staying below 450HP, and not sled pulling. It will handle one or two hooks a year at the local fair, but don't expect to leave the line in 4 th low at 4K RPM.

The 13" conversion clutches already have the flywheel machined for a BB pilot. I haven't had anyone complain of a bad bearing yet. Peter has even dropped the core charge on the 13" clutches. It is a lot of clutch for the money difference. You get the updated pilot bearing, a flywheel that you don't have to take to the machine shop and pay $50 to grind it, then another $25 or so to have it machined out for the new bearing. I have a 6 speed 13" already and if I pull out my FE for an OFE, I have thought really hard about buying the 13" ofe for mine for the above reasons.

I am the guy that zstroken is talking about, and he is correct in saying that I love it. Look at my sig and you can see my mods. I pull a 32' enclosed gooseneck everyday that weighs 12k. I would highly recommend the 2lo kit as it makes backing up so much easier.

I've got the 13' ofe in my truck.

One morning the truck almost would not go into gear. Then the clutch was dragging when stopped at lights

I floated the gears not using the clutch to get to work. Pedal feel was fine.

Got home it started working again. Saw a couple of what looked like sheered 1/4" pins or a piece of a spring.

Talked to woody at SBC. He thinks its a broken anti rattle spring. He said the clutch is still working, so just use it. That really sucks. No telling how much them parts in there dragging tore up the disk.

I have a SB FE and it holds grerat. Very very grabby. And that is right peter at SB takes care of business. Customer service is great at southbend. They have my business for lifetime. No other brand can even come close. My 2 cents

Love 'em

I put the 12. 25 OFE (no longer made) in my 2000 a LONG time ago. I've brutally slipped it a time or two trying to light/launch in 3rd. It holds the 470+ just fine when I'm not being an idiot. Very easy pedal.

Wife's truck came with a new 13" FE in it. And I have managed to slip it a time or two (35" tires :p ) and it is a bit grabby, but the pedal is fine. My wife is right around 100 pounds of diesel driving woman. She doesn't complain. I called Peter and asked about re-lining this one to OFE and you wouldn't believe the price quote. It was very, very low with quick turnaround promised. Thanks Peter, I'll do it next time the transmission is out.

AND for my ultimate endorsement. I'll be converting my Suncoast equipped truck to a gearbox one day and Peter's DD will be going in that one.

Peter ain't the only clutch guy around, but he has developed Legendary customer support and I gladly pay for that.

Gary Croyle (Perfection Clutch, SC) is fine clutch guy too. He just doesn't have what I want next (the DD), and I wouldn't ask him to reline Peter's clutch.
