Mine is all out of whack, and it is annoying me. My radar detector is on the money, but the overhead console is not. Help!!!!

Find an open area away from buildings, power lines, etc. , and drive around in a fairly tight circle about 5-10 mph, your computer should go into calibration mode and display a little CAL indicator, keep going around until it goes off, that's it. As long as your region is set correctly it should be pretty close to dead on then.

The '98 manual, page 8V-5 details this procedure, and describes the buttons you have to push. At the same time, you also have to complete the compass variation adjustment as described at at 8v-4. If you don't have the manual, I humbly suggest it it would be a great investment. Nick.

Nope, you don't have to push any buttons for it to go into CAL mode. To set the region you usually press and hold the two buttons at the same time.

I have the manual, but do not know where it is, so that is why I am asking on here. Thanks for the page info, but I need to know what to do. I am just trying to get this thing back on course.

Chris, the manual states that when you re-calibrate, you have to re-set the variation. To reset the variation:

1. Note from the map that you are probably in zone 6 for some of Texas.

2. Ignition on.

3. Hold down both buttons (US/Metric and Comp/temp) until VAR appears. (about 5 seconds)

4. Release both buttons. VAR remains.

5. Press and release the US/metric button. VAR1 appears. Press and release the US/metric button 5 more times so that VAR6 is shown.

6. Press the Comp/temp button to store the new variation.

To recalibrate:

1. Start the engine.

2. Depress both buttons until CAL appears, about 5 seconds after VAR.

3. Release both buttons.

4. Drive the vehicle on a level surface, away from large metal objects, through three or more complete circles in less than 48 seconds. The CAL message will disappear from the display to indicate that the compass is now calibrated. Don't get giddy! :D Nick.
