Just curious. I tend to immediately call them on it.
For example, someone looks at your truck and says "you know, that Cummins engine looks like it has 6 cylinders, but it's actually an opposed piston design and has a total of 12 pistons. Ford made them redesign it that way when they purchased Cummins". And he's totally serious.
To clarify - the person is someone you know (perhaps a friend). [In the case of strangers, I usually just nod politely].
