This is what I tried

1. start engine,

2. put shifter in nuetral and release clutch

3. turn cruise to on

4. press set

5. press accell

nothing

then I tried:

rev engine to 1500 rpm, press set, nothing

What am I doing wrong?

You might have to get it activated at the dealership. Do you have to have the parking brake on? Was your foot on the brake?

pretty funny bob. I've got an auto, and my buddy has a manual, same year. Brought our trucks in the same day to have the high idle activated and blammo. I've got it and he doesn't because his is a manual. I guess they don't want your dog jumping in the drivers seat and shoving it in first while your not in your rig with the RPM's at 1500.

My old Chevy truck idled about 1 ft into the house when it slipped into gear years ago... ... ..... that was when I learned how to stucco :-laf

Bob

My dealer said they were all activated from the factory... ... ... WOW those "technitions" are so dang smart. Yea, mine doesnt work either.

There is an automatic high idle on the 2003-4 trucks. Like I saw Tommeygun post elsewhere, that feature seems to come on whenever it feels like it  To have the high idle that is controlled by the cruise control buttons you must have an 04. 5 or 05 truck with an automatic. It works with the new electronic throttle, no mechanical linkage anymore. Manual trans trucks do not get this, nor do the early 3rd gens, and it looks hit and miss for '06 :(

Great - so since I have an operating left foot and like to select my own gear DC decided I cannot find nuetral on my own and should not be trusted with high idle. Once again a 50K truck will receive the most expensive of modifications, a brick.

yup. . you have to have an auto but quit whining about it. :{ . at least you can get an exhaust brake :p . that will help the warm up time just as much if thats the reason you want it. :D

I rarely park it outside, but when I do faster warm up would be nice. It just aggravates me when OEM's build something in and then take it away from certain models.

I guess the trrade for the ability to add a Jake is worth it.

I have a manual, and it has been quite nippy here the last few days, so I am glad that I had bought the throttle depressor from Geno's garage. I set her to about 1,300, and I get in her in about 5 minutes, nice and warm, ready to go!

Price of truck = $42,000

Price of Throttle Depressor = $28. 00

Price of truck warm when leaving = Priceless

Fast Idle

I have the 03, 6 speed. In cool weather (45 degrees), truck in neutral, parking brake set, it goes to high (1000 RPM) idle after about 5 minutes . It stays there till parking brake is released or engine temp rises.
