how do you shine your wheels

I used some Mothers Power Metal Aluminum on my wheels with a power ball and it was not much shinier than when I just wash the wheels. The result was not worth the effort. What shines up those stock wheels anyway? They must be some kind of aluminum alloy. -- Doug
