Digging dog

When you put water in the hole also put a hot pepper or spice in the water THEN put face in it. P. S. my wife and I trained dogs for 10 years and she works in pet industrry for 20 years

Dog from hell..

My dog from hell has holes all over my backyard. I have tried everything from burying rose bush clippings, to putting his nose in the water trick. I did however get him to quit eating the sprinkler heads! Put some tabasco on em. . It worked great. He now has taken to digging them up, instead of eating them.

This spring, they are living in the dog pen until my lawn grows back! I will take them out for runs in the praries, but they will have to learn to love the pen... ... . They have insulated houses and pen is covered, it won't be too bad. I just hate to see their faces when they beg to get out... DAMN dogs are putting a guilt trip on me.

Yea, CF. We went and bought a large dog house (supposed to fit 2 rottys:D )and nine times out of ten she sleeps on whats left of the grass, under the stars.

The cold dont seem to phase her.

She's probibally lonley, but I cant play all day, and I will not get another dog.

When the neighbor across the street is home, I let her play with their dog. She's in heaven then, but it's only about twice a week.

I thought about letting him put his mutt in my yard when he's at work, but his dog digs when it's happy, and my dog digs when it's not.

Either way I lose. :(

From the Vet. If you leave a dog out in the yard for long periods of time, alone, and bored, they are prone to digging. The biggest mistake people make when selecting a dog is selecting an innapropriate dog. They make the selection based on emotion i. e. they are cool looking, or "I really like Big dogs", or better yet, we wanted a dog and it was free:rolleyes: The best thing that a person or family can do when selecting a family dog is consider what kind of things the family or the primary owner likes to do. For example: We like to train dogs, we like the water, we like snow. I hate running, I like to swim. I like to downhill ski, I hate cross country skiing (kinda' like running) I like big dogs, don't mind slobber and my dogs will live in the house as a family member(s). Our dog selection(s) are Newfoundlands (x3). Two are now water rescue dogs and all are learning to be sled/skijouring dogs. They are WORKING DOGS and they have a Job. Consider how we, that are accustomed to working (or you probably wouldn't be able to buy a Cummins Ram;) ) feel when we are Laid Off, Fired, or inbetween jobs for any reason. Welcome to the world of stress, and anxiety. Dogs are the same way. So, ask yourself, What breed of dog has the characteristics that match ME? If I have a working type dog, do I have the time and energy to make my dog feel gainfully employed?

Let's see, Wolf-working and likes to live in a den. Husky-working also an escape artist and likes to den. German Shepherd-working (shepherd)Newfoundland-working, digs pits to lay in where soil is cooler. Absolutely loves to be with their master so they can protect them. Require alot of affection a. k. a. Gentle Giants. Patriot, you have your hands full. The first step is obedience training with a reputable trainer. Find out how many dogs they have shown in obedience trials. Do they currently have dogs of their own with obedience titles? Or did they learn it from a book or internet website and now call themselves a trainer? Just obedience training alone will make a working dog feel employed, to some extent. What kind of things do you like to do? Can you train the dog to do things with you? I gaurantee (sp) you, the Newfy part wants to be inside asleep at your feet or curled up on the couch. Good Luck. Sounds like you have the makings of a very good dog and even better buddy.

Yup it is a pain..

I have three dogs, which are occasionally

trying to dig holes in various places. So

far they have not tried to dig out from

under the fence and escape.

Other problem is when we go away for a

few hours, we leave them penned up in

the kitchen and one of them has been

chewing on the kitchen cabinets to the

point that they will probably need to be

replaced before we ever put the house

on the market!

And our carpet will probably need to be

entirely steam cleaned or replaced too.

Well, she has been to the waterhole twice now. I gotta tell ya, the sound she makes really gets to me. I truely believe that she thinks this is "it". It really makes me sad, but I have to try this. :(

If this dont get better, I'll try keeping her on a long chain. If I could contain her so the whole yard dont look like the moon:rolleyes:, I'd live with it.

I had her out playing today, I even let her tree a cat!!:-laf :-laf I had as much fun as she did with that one!:-laf She loves to play with cats and squirrels. :-laf

It's now almost 11pm and the usuial hole isnt re-dug yet. This one is a biggie, you could almost hide a BHAF in it!!
