Got a 1997 ST truck and the passenger side mirror is loose. Always closing in at fast highway speeds.

Is there some screew that can tighten the mirror so it will stay put when I set it at the right position?

The shaft on the mirror has a slip fit joint that allows it to be moved into position with hand pressure. The problem is that the base plate that the mirror shaft is attached to is made out of pot metal and the screws don't hold too good. Mine also became loose and I found one of the screws were stripped from the factory. I used locktite on the threads and tightened them down by hand just to the point before the stripped screw would release and loosen up. So far so good...

Here's the backside of the power mirrors. If I remeber correctly, the manual mirror uses something similar. I tightened the mirrors on my 1st truck. It was an ST also.

Thanks folks, I'll have to check this tonight ... its getting anoying having to reposition the passenger mirror every day.

How do you get the mirror off the door????

Another question ... how do you get the mirror off the door?

Only screew I see is the one on the inside of the door going through the plastic door panel.

Do you have to pry the mirror/base off the door?

You'd think they'd make this thing easy to fix.

Two screws in the door pull, one in the corner. You should be able to hold it back enough to get to the bolts without removing the entire door panel. Unbolt the three nuts and your done.
