get the fan out doing the KDP? I do not see how you can do it without removing the upper rad hose. Please help. Teying to get this done so I can put gauges and exhaust on.

Call TST and they said it will work by push the rad hose way back. I tried that and still do not see how it willl pass by with the bracket.

you have to remove the fan from the bracket first... I just use two pair of vise grips... one to hold the pulley, the other to loosen/remove the fan nut.

then the fan will come out from the top with a little wiggling.

Well I guess I will have to wait until Sun now because it is getting ready to rain. I am just going to drain the F'in rad and remove the hose. God this sucks.

I leave the fan in there up agenst the radiator and just remove the hub. The fan will just sit inside the shroud agenst the rad out of the way. Done a dozen of them like this.....

Thanks everyone for the replies. i will try to remove the bracket tomorrow. Just frustrating, especially when you have bombs to put on! :-laf

When I did mine, I did not have to take the fan off the bracket. I took off the oil filler tube and disconnected the coolant hose just on the radiator side and it came out without much fuss. Good luck.

i got my fan out with no trouble and it was the first thing i took off, i guess from working on bmws for a living where they vacuum pack the fan/shroud/motor all together you learn how to wiggle and walk them out

I can't remember exactly but I think when I did mine that I took the upper hose loose from the radiator and removed the oil fill tube, then removed the windshield washer resovoir, the coolant resorvoir, then unbolted the fan bracket and the fan shroud and removed them together. It was absolutely no problem. There is one bolt on the fan bracket that I had to use one of those little box-end Craftsman "ignition" wrenches on. I think I pretty much followed the TST instructions or it could have been the ones Joe G. sent me. Whichever they were they were very simple and straight forward. Tabbing the KDP was one job I actually enjoyed and had no problems with. :D

Goodness guys, this shouldn't be so difficult. If you've got the fan hub wrenches just remove the fan, set it agenst the radiator and pull the bracket/pully/bearing assembly out. Remove the alternator, jig the KDP and put it back together. 2 hrs tops, I do it in less than 1 now with some practice.

-Scott

you use a jig?

if you're going to go through the trouble, tab it... you get to re-torque the case bolts, re-seal the cover, and if the KDP has backed out very much, the jig won't work anyhow...

just tab it! :)

when i had the cover off squashing oil leaks it took all of about 5 minutes to make a tab and install it after i discovered nothing had been done with the kdp

Thanks for all the help and input guys. I am using the TST kit and tabbing it. It just says or suggests nothing about how to get the fan out. I am going to try to finish tomorrow. I am going take the fan bracket off. Again I appreciate everyones help with this. I am going to install gauges and exhaust also and was wandering if I can go ahead and push stock plate full forward? Going next week to have the timing set on 16* by Poole.

If the TST instructions don't mention it then it was the ones I got from Joe G.

It really was no big deal. Don't be scared! ;)

Well I got it out and found my dowel flush with the housing. I also found a fine crack along the boss beside the dowel pin. Am I going to have to replace it or will it be fine? Also, is there any problem with not using a new gasket?
