I have a 94 2500 2 W/D 3. 54 gears, automatic. It is stock in all departments except that I did reseat and pin the KDP. It was stalking my engine looking for the proper time to fall into the T/gears. I also have a stock exhaust except with out muffler or cat. I also repaired the cooler lines connectors. My problem is that I pull a 31' Airstream whick I am told weighs in at about 7000# +- and also a 20' car hauler weight dependent on what I have on it. Trailer is 2500# empty and I will at times for short pulls have as much as 9000# pay load on the trailer. I am wanting to get more torque in the 1800--2200 rpm range. I was looking at a fuel plate and retipping the injectors as I have one that is not delivering full power at times. It has a partial miss at full or near full throttle at times. I gathered from some of the posts on the forum that the #6 plate would be near what I want. I do not want to kill the fuel economy. I get N/L millage of 22 MPG at 75 mph now and 19 mpg local. H/W millage with a 5000# trailer at 75 mph is 16. 5 on a 2000 mile trip, Oklahoma to /Chattanooga, Tennessee. What has you experiance been with the plate change? Another thing I have found strange is that the oil in this engine will stay clear for 5000 miles. When I drain it it is still almost as clear as when I put it in. I find this unusual for a diesel. I like it but I believe it is because the truck is lean. I also get no smoke at the exhaust. Any feedback would be helpful.

I don't think I would touch it. Thats good mileage, and clean oil. You could slid your plate forward a little, BUT MARK the original place with a scrib. put in some gages and see how evey thing is performong though.

just my penny's worth.

You might also consider a 3k GSK. My mods haven't effected my mpg. Only my right foot can take it down. Pulling about the same loads with a 2 horse GN trailer, my mileage hasn't changed. As stated, put in some gauges, a pyro, transmission temp and boost for starters. Adding power could greatly effect the life of your auto transmission, keep that in mind.

My mileage did not change at all after the plate and GSK install, still 17 in town, 20 hwy unloaded. The only change has been a big improvement in power and driveability and a little smoke out of the tailpipe under load.

Thanks for the come back Mary, and everyone, would like to get a few more if you are out there. About the jig for the KDP. I did mine and a customers with out it. I pulled the cover to ck the pin and it was out aways from the seated position, so I drove it back in and then sighted to get the angle to drill, and then drilled the hole and tapped it, then countersunk it and put in a screw long enough to cover the DP hole. Then reinstalled the cover and a new crank seal. Worked like a charm.

Please excuse my ignorance, but I do not recall what the accronim 3K GSK refers to. Please elaborate.

Thanks,

3KGSK = 3,000rpm governor spring kit. A spring kit that raises the fuel cut off point by about 500rpm. A very nice addition.

When I put in the #10, I never saw a decrease in the mpg. Same with the rest of the mods I have. Since adding the injectors, my mileage has come UP, not down. I used to get 16-16. 5mpg running 70-75mph (4. 10 gears). Set new high of 17. 5mpg runnig the same speed. :) I have little to no smoke from mine, unless I hammer it after 4th gear lock-up. I have the AFC spring kinda tight to control smoke and help the stock (ya, I know, needs BOMBed) transmission live a little longer by reducing fueling off the line.
