Can this unit be programmed to change the ECM commanded tcc lock up? In other words, can I input the mph at which I want the tcc to lock up in overdrive and also unlock? Is it independent of throttle? How do you like yours if you have one? Easy install? Thanks

You can set lockup from 22 to 44 MPH, it is done in increment's of 4 MPH. anything lockup under 28 mph will shudder. Install is simple.

I like the ATS commander, I have it on my 05 Ram, I think they are now selling the co-pilot in the place of the commander now.

I have my commander set to lockup the torque converter after going into 3rd. Then when I go into 4th O/D I don't get the unlock / go into o/d / lock back up. I just go 3rd then lockup then 4th.

With the new co pilot you can set lockup as low as 18mph and 50mph top. I have found that 40MPH works best for sudden stops, you want to set it high to keep that horrible shutter that feels like its shaking the truck apart to a minimum.

Co-Pilot

I experienced something weird with my co-pilot and am wondering if any of you guys running it have had the same situation. I have mine adjusted all the way up and I'm not seeing any 50mph lockup but rather about 42 or 43mph. Anyway I was boost braking and if I got up to 1600rpm and the truck would shudder and it actually killed the engine once b-4 I could back off of the rpm a bit. If I turn it off I can boost up to 2k rpm NO problem. So I'm thinking that I would boost brake at the drags and then as soon as I take off turn on the Co-pilot.

I called ATS and talked to their techy and he said the Co-pilot can activate two ways and if you have it all hooked up at the factory directions then it operates off of boost and even at 1600rpm at a stop I'm not developing much of any boost. He said I could cut the orange wire and then it operates by mph and NOT boost. He suggested putting a male/female end on the wire so I could plug it in or unplug it as needed or wanted.

Be careful boost braking in that thing. I welded the clutches together on a 3month old transmission, ATS says that it is not covered under warranty but they will take care of me this time, I thought spending 5 grand on a "bulletproof" trans meant that these are the sort of things you can do in them but I guess not. I am glad it broke within three months instead of three yrs down the road. A lot harder to deny warranty on it if it is only 90 days old.

So does that mean that if you boost brake,. . and a lot of us do,... that the co-pilot should be off and then hit the button after launch?

no thats BS you should be able to boost lauch all you want thats what these billit transmission's are for... ... ... ... ... if it breaks the controller is not set right or the transmission company did'nt do there job building a good transmission

OK,... what EXACTLY is BS

Is it my question that sucks and is BS?? Is it that it doesn't work like you're saying? Or what??

I had the frickin' tech joc on the phone with me and adjusted it as prescribed and at exactly 1600 rpm it kills the engine. I've been told it needs to be adjusted up until it locks at above 40mph and I'm at 42 or 43 and that is one light more on adjustment than the double light you get on the last two blue lights to the right. I have it installed exactly per their instructions and like I said earlier in this thread & he (the tech from ATS) suggested clipping that orange wire since when everything is hooked up as prescribed in their instructions then your getting your lockup via boost and NOT mph. You have to clip the orange wire to get mph which I haven't done yet. But this thing is doing EXACTLY what I said it was,. . and that's NO BS.

i was replieing to post # 7 , i guess i hit on the wrong one, my point in in the post i made---------these trannys should not have a problem boost launching when built right, lock-up controller or not.

MO better. Gotcha. Tks

The Co-pilot works great via Boost GM/Ford, Not so on the ISBe, when you add Twins or a good single charger, the ISBe is capable of Producing incredible amounts of Boost independent of RPMs,Both GM/Ford create RPMs fast and than the Boost follows,so the Via-Boost lockup works great on those Engine trans Combos.

I hope for those that do Boost lunches, that you also have a Boost Check Book,Please Try and remember that you are lunching 7k plus down the track,Not a unit-body that weighs in at less than 3k.

( On Edit) 35 plus Psi on the GM/Ford and you are entering the danger Zone, 35 PSI on the ISBe is: You get the Point.

This is what I just tried

Just took my truck out and didn't clip the orange wire yet. I boost braked to 2k rpm locked into 4X4 and let 'er fly. Great launch and no killing my engine but I had the Co-Pilot turned OFF. As soon as I launched I pushed the ON button on the Co-Pilot and had real nice crisp shifts like I want. I may still clip the orange wire just so I don't have to mess around with pushing buttons when I run the 1/4 and am watching other things like EGTs & Boost. :-laf

I think if you have a 'bulletproof' transmission, you could build as much boost as you wanted, and launch a 7000 lb truck.

just my opinion

I agree and still dont have a transmission  I am thinking about de tuning the truck now because I bought it to drive. It seems the more I do to it, the more it sits broken.

Tha's why ATS Sucks, and transmission threads aren't allowed anymore (the truth isn't allowed to be shown).

Go with a different company for a better trans.

Isn't it funny that the factory lockup is right in the 45-55MPH zone, and that's where most are setting lock-up?

Sometimes factory knows best...

Not a chance! I think that has been pretty well proven with the Scary Larry tunes.

I don't care who the builder is, these transmissions will NOT take unlimited +25 psi boost lanches in a 7k truck. There simply is not enough material or strength in available parts to handle the amount of power a BOMBed engine will make. ;)
