Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) how does stick come off 5spd for removal

Exactly what it says how do I take the stick off the top of the transmission so i can remove it from the truck. Already got the 4wd linkage out of the way. but i can not figure out how to get the stick off without removing the top plate and when you remove the top plate it wont fit thru the whole. I am sittin here waiting on this so thanks for a quick reesponse ahead of time. travis

Push the pivit ball thing down and turn counter clockwise. It's stiff but it should turn. Then it liifts right out.

On my 96 3500 i just pulled REAL hard straight up & it came off

The retainer that holds the stick in has to be pushed down and rotated about 1/8 turn, kinda like the old style automotive light bulbs.

Thanks we got it at about 330 last night. Looks like there is no sighn of teeth on the first gear in the case from the front on the top shaft (Input gear????) and the gear that rotates the counter shaft (lowershaft) has a bunch of wear and missing teeth on it too. What are these gears called if you know, And Is thier heavier duty replacement parts available. thanks travis
