My clutch pedal just starting making a loud clicking noise right after full disengagement. I crawled under the dash and looked, and it appears as though the master cylinder and the bracket that it is attached to is moving/ twisting. When I watch from the outside, I can also see the end sticking out of the firewall moving/twisting as well. I can't for the life of me figure out how to tighten this bracket, is there maybe a weld that broke or something??? I'm about ready to tear the dash apart, that loud click is really bugging the hell out of me. I searched the archives and couldn't find anything related to this type of noise.

Thanks

AJ

The clutch master cylinder mounts into the firewall by a socket arrangement. It appears from the FSM that this socket is part is called a cylinder bracket & is bolted to the pedal assembly support bracket with 4 bolts. These bolts are located near the clutch master cylinder rod, they should be visible from under the dash, maybe they are loose.

AJ,

Believe it or not, I just fixed the exact same problem on my 91 this morning. The bracket that the clutch pedel bolts too was completely cracked along the bolts. The best solution I could come up with is to remove the whole dash, and then bolt in a brace between the two pieces or fully weld the two pieces together. That will take some time, so for the time being, I managed to weld the bottom edge and about 2. 5 inches up the crack. To keep it from pushing the slave cylinder out of the firewall, I wedged up a piece of wood lathe between the firewall and the bracket. Works good for now, but it is by no means a permanet fix... this fall I'll be removing the dash to fully weld up the bracket AND install a brace. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks guys, I finally took the dash off and I had the same problem as Dustin. I welded the crack, and where the bracket had popped the spot welds. Hopefully it's permanent, I hate doing work inside the cab, especially in the dash. Plus I burned a hole in my wife's good oven mitts... . better that than my wires!!! While we were in there, we installed my Isspro tach. Got to go look up idle speed now. Thanks again for the prompt responses!! I love this place. Everytime I have to kick the wife off the computer, she asks why. When I reply " gotta look something up on TDR" she replies with " big surprise". HAHA

Thanks again
