Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) How download total engine hours on 2001

I have read threads on the 2003 which is capable of providing total engine run hours by cycling the key three time tried this on my 2001 and no hours. Has anyone figure out how to get engine run hours on 01's???

I believe the dealer can tell you with the DRB III tool but will probably want $80 to do it.

I thought I read a thread where you could do it by cycling the key; noway will I pay 80 for hours...

I can't say for sure on 2003 and newer trucks, but on a 2001 when you cycle the key...

on, off, on, off, on

All that displays is codes.

The year models 03-up hours display is, turn ignition key to "on" position do not start truck, while odometer mileage is showing press and hold trip meter button the trip mileage is displayed continue to hold down for 6 seconds the engine hours will then be displayed.
