I've seen the ad saying 688 hp single, though I've never got an answer on what correction factor they were using. . I'd guess it's pretty high, though assumptions are worthless. . Does anyone know?
I would honestly have to say from what I have seen at the pulls and the twist and torque load put on the truck itself the 96-97 Ext cab LWB would be you best pulling choice. I have seen how the Quad Cab shows the body flex and twists after a few years of pulling and the Ext Cabs are a tad sturdier. Some will say it has to be any of the 215hp trucks because of their bigger p-pumps but realistically if you delve into a puller who has had a custom pump done they do not run the 215 pumps anyway. So if you going to do a truck from the beginning to finish any LWB Ext Cab will do from 95-97.
53 blocks are a moot point in the 12v's as you never see any break on one of those motors. Its the 53 block in the 24v where they lightened the block some to allow the motor to heat quicker for emissions purposes which crack and break. 24v fuel systems are a pain, but, realistically once done the correct way they are about as bullet proof as the 12v's.
Cream of the crop would have to be the 98 12v Quads. Its gives you the addition of the Quad(yes,in 98 it was a option) and still have the 12v. If you find one clean and loaded you have a truck sought by many. The truck I own has a Mid-December of 97 build date and is one of the last 12v's built. While its a fine ride and has been very good to me I have been giving a long look at buying a slushbox equipped truck as I am about tired of rowing the big stick to go somewhere. Will I do it,one never can tell... ... Andy
