I straight piped my truck last week, and this week the freakin' stock tip broke off. So I decided to go ahead and get a tip. I got my local muffler shop to order me a 5" tip, and it should be in tomorrow. I plan to run it out before the rear tires. I want my exhaust to be loud, obnoxious, and very easy to see. I have a 3500, so how far would yall reccomend it stick out in relation to the rear tires or fenders? What is the best length for the least soot on the wheel? and what do yall think would look the best? All opinions are appreciated.

Rick

I personally wouldn't have it protrude past the bodyside/flare just so you don't hit your leg on it or dent it on a fuel island or other obstacle that might sneak up on you. I would think with the straight pipe, loud and obnoxious should not be a problem. Can't speak to soot on rear wheels.

Rick, I don't have an answer for ya as my pipe was behind the rear wheel when I added the 5" tip. Just wanted to say Welcome and I love that line quoted above

Photopoint-Hyperlinks

Hey guys, I don't have a suggestion on how far out to put the tip on your exhaust, I just wanted to ask if anyone else is having a problem connecting to the photopoint hyperlinks alot of the guys have in their signatures. I haven't been able to view one yet. Ed3

Apparently, Photopoint is DOA. They sent me no notice and I have to remove those links, sorry. Photopoint got a few us to pay the annual fee and then dropped us like a hot potato ( or is potatoe:D ). Lost a few pics. also

Here is my exhaust,, You will probly want to stick the tip out to be as far out as the duals are.

On my truck, if I crawl under it and look around, the rear drum, leaf springs, shocks, axle, brake lines, ETC. are soot covered. (Only on pass. side of truck)

Sounds cool, LOTS of Turbo noise. You'll have lots of people making good use of their ability to "Roll up their windows" You'll be #1 in no time also. Just be carefull with cops/sheriffs they get mad too  . Ask me how I know

Yeah, for some reason, they dont like lots o smoke. Can you believe i was actually accused of "driving like an idiot and just plain pi$$ing off the general public:rolleyes: " I wonder if it had anything to do with blasting a Honda rice burner in the right lane . :p :p

I think that is #3 on the smoke em/ dont smoke em rule list. "if the tail pipe has a larger displacement than the engine supplying it" ... ... you are then required to smoke em out ;)

etiquette tips

wonder how long it will be before this thread attracts the attention of the moderator--hey, it's all in good family type fun!!;)

Got the tip...

I got the 5" tip put on just in front of the rears. I tried to post a pic as an attachment, but it said my file size was too big. The pic is already pretty small (640x480). It is about 38,000 bytes but needs to be less than 32000. How do I do it?

Not all of us, Rubberneck :--) . I have yet to see a CTD putting out my trucks smoke while working, but if I do, darned sure I will stop him/her... . gotta know what they are running, that's all. Oh yeah, also to ask if they are a TDR member  .

Hey bigsaint, the funny part is i recognized the cop that pulled me over. His dad owns the dealership where i bought my truck. I wonder if they will void my warranty next time im in there:p

Any way, i deserved being pulled over, i am the first to admit it. I know its stupid to hot rod on the street, but those little rice rockets are hard to resist sometimes. But i am being a good boy now. When asked why it was smoking so much i just said dunno, i guess ill have to get that checked out;)

Here in my hometown, five of the sheriff's deputies have Cummins Rams, and so does the sheriff's twin brother. I'm a little behind on getting all their trucks done. I hope they don't start pulling me over and reminding me. :D I'll have to charge them a deputy's badge for the license plate. :p
