How finicky are you about starting your truck (or even car)? :)

For example:



1. Motor is cold. (or worse yet, it's -10F out side too). Some one parked their car in your spot prior. So are nice and park right in the way. possibly trying to stay outa the street. Basicly, this car owner knows better then to park there



2. You want burgers, you parked to close the garage to get the grill out. You said forget it, I'll cook them in a pan. Since you can't push the truck by your self. Even tho the motor is relativly warm.



3. other situations that you just said "ummm no I won't move it"





I extreamly HATE starting a cold motor to move it 20 feet back and foward becuase of #1. Either it's started and run and warmed up fully, or not at all.



I will refuse to go though a drive though if I have to shut my CRD off to talk in the box at Wendy's. It's not that loud.

depends on weahter its hot or cold. I push the car a lot. but anythime I move something it idles for a couple minutes to get oil everywhere.

i have pushed my truck more then once to avoid starting iti hate when people make me move my truck and if they tell me to shut my truck off then i just go up to the window and order

i do the same too if i need to ... if i have to get into the garage to move stuff around, i just coast my truck down the drive to gain access... drive is sloped quite a bit...

Wow, I thought I was finicky about vehicles, but not anymore. If it will run under its own power, I start it, and let it move itself. I don't like to start something cold just to start it, but its got to wear out sometime. One more cold start of the cummins can't be much worse then a couple full throttle assaults off the stoplights.



As far as shutting it off at the drive through, its not going to do any damage to shut it off for a minute and fire it back up. I shut mine off at the speaker, the window I give them money at and the window I get my food at.

I paid a lot of $$$$ for a motor to move the vehicle, thus I use said motor that I have paid for.



As for the drive thru issue, if you're not gonna shut it down, then do not be upset if they screw up your because they could not hear you. If you've never used a speaker system, you'd be surprised how much noise they pick up. Just for kicks, if you have a cb system, pull the mic outside and then have someone key it up and see how loud your motor is on the other side. Betcha change your mind about shutting it down. But I have been known to pull off to the side prior to entering the drive thru to let the EGT's come down knowing that I will be shutting it down.

I too have pushed my truck instead of starting it as well. I need the exercise and it saves wear.



I sat in my truck the same day it got to the dealer. I was heading back to work for two weeks. The truck hadn't been through prep yet, so I wouldn't be able to take that day. I didn't even start it up then. I waited a long two weeks before I was able start it up and drive it away.



My only regret was that I didn't take the window sticker off of it. The dealer threw it away during the prep, boy I was ******! This was my first new truck I have bought. I ordered it just the way I wanted, and it even had my name on the window sticker! I don't think I will ever buy from that dealer again. I am still bitter about it almost two years later.

Hey! I got a couple old window stickers I'll sell you. Haven't been used except to take them off the windows, so practically good as new! They are filed with all the old pics, brochures, transmission ratios, and bids from past purchase cogitations.

I confess, I only cold start/stop my truck when necessary and will roll it, or my wife's car out of the garage in BZ. Sometimes I have to plan the day to avoid a cold start/stop such as rolling it in to a trip to the post office, dumpster, office, or maybe a short run up the pass and back.

I must admit that I am guilty of this OCD-like behavior as well.

If I gotta start my truck to move it, it just stays where it is.

I dont like to run it unless it gets to warm up.

If I need to move the truck 3', or 300 miles,, I do exactly that. I do not like to idle my vehicles. Unless I need the Heater, or A/C, the truck gets shut off once the turbo cools.

I'm real picky about this also. I hate starting something just to shut it back off right away. I will sometimes even avoid short trips in town since this does not warm it up all the way. I'm real picky about slow warm ups too. Most people start a rig up and hit the floor right away but I like to warm it up nice and easy. All those internal parts warm up and expand at different rates so taking off fast is not good. Most engine wear is at start up and warm up.

ill let it reach operating temps before i go WOT. if i need to move it strait and its down hill, i push the clutch. anything else, it gets started. i figure if i only get 350k instead of 400k out of this truck, ill live with it. i shut it down at the drive through speaker and sometimes at the window. they cant hear you other wise. besides, i thought this thing came with a starter for a reason.

Ive let my truck roll a bit if it can, but the occasional short start is OK.

In the winter, engine wear can be a but more of an issue, but the big thing is not running long enough to replace the charge on the batteries-- not the worst thing in the world, but poorlt charged batts in the winter can be a severe PITA.

But i also believe it isnt good to leave it running so i dont when i run into the convenience store unless its cold and snowy then i do



So all this means is that i am a nutcase

I drive like the UPS guy 5' or 500 miles it is the same to me. UPS has a hard time wearing engines out, fuel pumps and starters maybe but I think you will wear out your truck before you wear out the engine from starting it.
