:-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf Geez, you ARE in a creative mood this week. I may have to use your techniques on my next date. :D

BUT, instead of jazz, how about some classical or some foreign language, you know, where you cant understand the words, but can imagine what they are? :D;) And alter the words for the moment?

Wake up and get back to work, Jay'-DP

PS- what was the original topic? Oh, yeah, so this dont get deleted, what exactly makes you think you ruined the turbo?

First of all, I only hit it twice... and I didn't like the feeling so I used the bolts to "press" the housing off.

4 months later...

I started hearing the turbo whine get louder and higher pitched... then started to hear it louder after shut down as it spun to a stop. Figured it was rebuild time, so I ordered a kit.

2 weeks later the kit came in, and I took the turbo off and apart.

The thrust bearing (really a bushing) was totally worn thru because the shaft bearing surface (which is part of the shaft) was missing a chunk material... . yes a pie shaped piece was gone.

This sharp edge wore thru the thrust bearing.

I guesstimate an easy 3/32 to 1/8 inch of axial play.

My guess it that it happened when I hit the turbo... that is the only logical conclusion I can make.

Oh yes... . the intake impeller was making contact with the housing... . luckily no detectable damage from the injested aluminum dust.

Never found the missing chunk of turbo shaft... probably in the oil pan.

Now I gotta go find those elusive sandwiches:D
