tractorseller brings up a good point. What have Line-X users had success with for cleaning and restoring the luster to the Line-X bedliner?

Rusty

When I had mine done, they offered some kind of UV protectant, seems to hold up really well. Considering all the stuff I've spilled on it over time, car wash chemicals, gas from leaky pressure washers, diesel that spills from my big tank, etc.

I paid extra for the Line-X UV protection and it still faded within a year in the southwest sunshine. I, like Ryan, prefer the dull look. I've beat this liner up with a ton of things and it's held up great. But, it does not withstand exhaust heat. It will melt.

Speedliner

Do a search for speedliner on this board. We've had a lot of stuff done at my department (Sheriff) that's held up great. Hummers, trucks and search and rescue vehicles and we're real happy with the product. I've been shopping and surfing for bed liners for my Dodge and Speedliner is going in it as soon as I can give away the drop in! www.speedliner.com

you can use most detergent soaps and a high pressure washer to bring back the luster of the bed. There's a specific cleaner sold at autozone that I can't remember right now that is specifically for plastics that works very well. I think it was a castrol product but i am not sure. We brought a couple of beds that were 2 or more years old back up to looking brand new this way.

Sorta stands to reason - I think it's has to be heated to apply...

Probably typical of all sprayed bedliners. ;) :D

I had good intentions of putting a heat shield between the bed and exhaust, but it was late and I was too excited. Lesson learned.

I remember seeing some video of a coated cinder block being dropped from a 3 story building, and did not hurt it at all. I was pretty amazed, but I forget what liner manufacturer it was, pretty sure it was Line-X. I have also come across the fading issue with my Rhino lining, but some dishwasher soap and a little bit of scrubbing brought the shine right back. My bed takes a ton of abuse, everything from rocks and gravel to quads, etc. I have a crack on the front side of the bed at the top that I have to weld up and re-spray that area, but besides that I have had 4 years of abuse to that liner and whenever I clean it, it looks like it was just sprayed. Great stuff, the man who invented this stuff is a god...

I'm pretty sure any of the better tire, vinyl or rubber trim preservatives will maintain and restore the appearance of the bed liners - if you have any around, try it on a small inconspicuous area.

I use a power washer to clean mine and if I want it really pretty I use a product called 303. I buy if from Cammping World. Only problem is it makes the liner very slick.

I'm not sure how, but there is a chunk of our Line-X that got ripped off by dragging something. It is bare metal now, but it's pretty small. It looks like the lining is about 1/4" there. Doesnt Line-X have a lifetime warranty, so you can get it patched up or something? I guess it depends on the dealer.

Nationwide Lifetime Warranty

My understanding is that as long as you have the warranty paperwork that proves that you are the original purchaser of the coating, that any line-x dealer nationwide should fix the liner if you have cuts, nicks, scratches, etc.

That is one of the better selling points of Line-X to me. If I should ever decide to relocate then I don't have to worry about what happens if I need to get it touched up.

Wasn't Line-X testing a product designed for ballistic armor or shielding for military applications? You're right - it's tough stuff!

Rusty

Line-X is used as a protective coating on the balistic plates is body armor.

An even better application of the technology (Not Line-x but a brand name spray on competitor) is being used on fuel trucks. Known as Tank Skin, it is a spray on self sealing application that will provide small arms protection for tankers and if puctured by up to . 50 caliber it will self seal as the fuel exits the entrance exit hole.

Neat stuff, take about 6 hours to spray a 5K tanker truck.

I'm a LINE-X dealer. Allow me to address some of the issues.

Rhino and LINE-X are not the same products. Rhino is 100% polyurethane and LINE-X is a blend of polyurethane and polyurea. LINE-X literally has more than double the tear strength of Rhino (LINE-X 304 pli, Rhino 145 pli). LINE-X does not need to be as thick as Rhino. Would you rather have 1/4" of aluminum or 1/8" of titanium? The thickness of LINE-X should be about 3/16" on the bed an a little less on the sides and tailgate. If you want more, talk to the dealer.

Rust is the enemy. All rust must be removed as best as possible and if rust was present, I always use a special LINE-X primer called XPM.

LINE-X can easily be repaired and if you have a LINE-X bedliner, you have a limited nationwide lifetime warranty. Now, if you abused the bed, like dropped 2,000 pounds onto the bed from a three story building, you are not within the limits of the warranty.

There are several ways to keep LINE-X always looking brand new:

Good: Apply Just Once several times a year (www.justonce.com). 303 Aerospace is also good.

Better: Have the dealer apply Ultra Shield. US is a one time application. It keeps the liner from fading.

Even Better: Have the dealer apply Dupont Nason. It's more glossy than Ultra Shield, thus better looking.

Best: Have the dealer apply LINE-X Xtra. Xtra is a darker black, glossy, contains Kevlar Micro Pulp, applied like a topcoat but migrates into the bedliner, and is guaranteed not to fade or lose its gloss.

If your LINE-X has faded, you can restore the color buy scrubbing the snot out of it with a stiff brush, water, and auto soap. Let it dry and then apply some Just Once or 303 Aerospace.

A truely unique LINE-X product that's used by the military is called Paxcon. Paxcon has been sprayed inside the Pentagon, Federal Building in New York and inside US nuclear submarines. Check out the site: www.paxcon.com

Also, the LINE-X bedliner product (XS-100) has been applied to about 50,000 bullet proof shields that the military uses. This soldier's life was saved by the shield and he is presenting it as a gift to Donald Rumsfeld. Notice the LINE-X coating.

Speedliner (and Superliner) are solvent based brushable polyurea paints. Since they are paints, they do hold their color better, but they lose their gloss and they are not as durable. Also, Speedliner and Superliner must apply an adhesive primer first because their product does not have good adhesion properties. Speedliners website states that after only 2,000 hours (that's less than 3 months) the liner loses 20 to 29% of its gloss. Here's the link: http://www.speedliner.com/bed-liner-information/index.html

Here's LINE-X with black LINE-X Xtra. This bedliner is guaranteed to always look this good.

Well DFriedson... All I can say is I wish all the Line-X dealers out there were reading off the same sheet of music as you.

Let me say this before I go on--I am sold, I want one.

There , that was the easy part.

Now, tell me, why is the hard part trying to find a dealer in my half of the state. . but of even greater importance, why cant I find one that will spray a color other than black.

The first one fifty miles away did everything he could to convince me to use black. "But I dont want Black". " Wellllll, we really only do black-But if you dont go with black... I will have to charge extra to clean out my spray gun, and extra for the color, and extra for the time, and extra for the... . and its gonna fade, and not match. . " & on & on & on.

After that conversation I was looking for wall to bang my head on.

How far are you from Jersey?

I have Line-x and I wouldn't do it again. I have a couple places where it's chipped off and I'm not that happy with it. It's great stuff if you don't use your truck bed for too much. I"ve always had a bed liner in the past and would go back to that.

Eek. I have placed several pallets of pavers on the back of the bed and pushed them forward along the bottom of the bed with a forklift. That's about 3800# per pallet. Dumped 3/4" landscaping gravel in the bed and shoveled it out. Hauled everything from bikes to lumber to appliances... .

I'm glad I don't work my truck :-laf

Now where were you when I tried to give away my plastic bedliner?

Seriously, mine's been abused, but it still looks great. I'd do another Line-X in a hearbeat.

Juan

just a quick tid-bit but Im looking to put Line-X or Rhino on the bottom of my truck (below beauty line) which would be better at repelling dirt/dust and having that clean look??

my boss/cousin had a colored bed liner sprayed on the bottom of his GMC3500 and being gray and going down dirt roads its not been the same "gray" even after using a power washer to it. I dont want this black to turn a brown color.....

my company truck has rhino in the bed (97 dodge 2500) and we use the bed 5 days a week with misc items in and out of the bed. appliances to grass clippings and the Rhino is NOT holding up. were the 2nd owner of the truck, you can peel the rhino off the bed and tailgate... . im not impressed.
