hello everyone, ijust purchased a 98. 5 24 valve 2500 2wdwith 3. 55's i love the truck so far and i'd like to know if i can pull my race car and trailer combo in od. trailer and race car are approx 5500lbs with tools and such i'm about 12000-12500 gcvw any opinions are welcomed thanks mike

towing in OD is not a problem as long as you keep the RPM's up, when the RPM's drop lower than 1600 kick it out of overdrive

I second that but a good aftermarket transmission rebuild will help. I broke the in(out?)put shaft that DTT makes a replacement for. Installer said he had never seen at the failure point mine was at, truck still moving but nothing really left bearing broke apart, and shaft was factured. I was pulling a 5th wheel 8'x8'x33' that combo weighed in at 20,000 GCVW. had to rebuild at 240,000 miles but only about 50,000 miles was with a load. this was the 96

DTT told me it was best to pull it out of O. D. as soon as you hit a hill. This will take alot of strain off it and keep transmission temps down.

I leave it in overdrive as long as EGTs are ok and drop into drive and slow down when the EGTs climb too high. I am running Suncoast parts in my transmission and have had no problems to date.

The person who can best answer this question for you is your transmission Temp guage! When the trans temp starts to climb it is time to pull in down into drive. Keep one eye on the Trans temp quage and you should have no problems pulling in OD

You have a human transmission temp guage? What did that run you? ;>)

Sorry had to go there. Personally I'd stick to the 1600 rpm rule.

Try the 1600 rule. If the transmission starts to "hunt" before that go to higher rpm. I used to shift out of OD at 1800 rpm with my 98. 5 5speed (manual), and that was mostly because of the 5th gear nut problem.
