I'm looking at getting an EGT gauge for my 24 V, but I don't haul a thing so I was wondering if it would ever read anything. I have an oil temp gauge that hardly ever moves, so I didn't want to drop $100+ in a gauge that doesn't move.

What temps do you guys get unloaded?

With my 12V,straight pipe,and Psychotty breather, mine runs 550-575 at 60 and 600 at 70.

It'll move alright. If it doesn't; start up the Mighty Cummins and check it again!

But seriously, my EGT is also 600 degrees at 70 miles an hour. If I really romp on the go pedal it will hit 1100 without too much trouble. As I have learned on this site, if you really want to take care of your truck gauges will give you a baseline so you can tell if, and when you may have a problem. A boost gauge is also an excellent diagnostic tool to establish a baseline.

I never see anything above 1150°, and that is with DD3's, PSA, and a straight pipe. When my truck was stock, I could hit 1250°. Who knows what the EGT would be if I still had a muffler and stock airbox. The PSA works!!! #ad
 
I run unloaded 95% of the time and I range from 600-900. It's suprising how much there is a temp change just with normal driving. I wouldn't be without one.

I've noticed whan towing 13,000 I run 950-1000 I can't get over 1000 at anytime. Empty I am around 500-650 using the AutoMeter.

Turbo thom, I am courious to know if your EGT
probe is pre or post turbo? Mine is pre turbo
and its all stock,AT,3. 54 gears and towing 9K
I see 1000 real easy and back off or down shift. You must be post turbo,or we have a vast diference in temp's. Would like to know.
 
unloaded (except for stuff in the bed, and the campershell which puts me about 800lb est. ) I get similar temps (post-turbo) to what's posted. (I run about 750*/28psi when going uphill at 90+mph)
