I have ben looking for a straight answer on how hot the engine should get before the fan comes on. The local dealer said 220  which seems a little warm to me. Today pulling a 35' gooseneck with an old furd diesel on it the attitude showed an engine temp of 217 and i never heard the fan kick in. BTW this was on a 2 mile long 8% grade going 60 mph and egt of 1000. thanks in advance. I just dont want to melt my favorite motor.

I just had mine in the shop about five days ago after seeing temps in the 216 range (non towing) and all they did is replace my t-stat and reprogram the computer even though i had replaced the t-stat already. So whatever, got my old t-stat back that i just replaced in order to get my 30 bucks back from the parts store. Temps are still the same and service manager said up to 220 was ok. A ferd friend said some people are putting 203 deg. stats in p-chokes in order to get better combustion/ economy??? Not worried about the higher temps now, even though it has never gone above 190 in the past. Getting a new truck anyways. :D
