I have an 01 2500 auto/3. 55. I just intalled ad edge box65hp/110tq. My egt temp is running warmer. I will be pulling my 22. 5' 7000# 5th wheel soon and was wanting to know how hot is to hot? I'm also concerned about trans. temp this summer. Along with the edge Im putting on some H. O. stock injectors a freind is giving me(almost new). He put on some 275,s. I've put in egt/boost/fuelpress. gauges, but don,t have trans. temp. Fuel gauge aready paid for itself. I was told to be careful about to much power to this trans. Thanks.

1. The HO injectors are smaller than your SO injectors. The HO made its additional power with programming plus higher injection pressures. You'll lose HP if you install HO injectors with an SO VP-44.

2. Since your truck is an automatic, you have the HY35W-9 turbocharger. If you'll do a search for "turnbuckle", you'll see how to turnbuckle your wastegate to get higher boost which will lower the EGTs. The Edge EZ box it sounds like you're using already has a boost fooler function, so the higher boost won't cause defueling or throw any codes.

When I installed my EZ with its boost elbow and Jardine 4" exhaust on the same weekend, maximum EGTs when towing our 5th wheel dropped from 1300 degF (21 PSIG boost) to 1100 degF (30 PSIG boost). Most of this EGT drop was because of the higher boost which puts more airflow through the engine.

As far as egt's go, when towing keep sustained egt's below 1200* and you should be fine. But keep an eye on you coolant temp as prolonged high egt's can cause the engine to overheat and cause damage. Short burst (say under 15 seconds) of egt's higher than 1200* will not harm anything... . It is the sustained egt's that heat soak the engine causing problems.

As for the injectors you will not get any performance gain by changing them. Now your transmission you need to watch, be careful when towing for extended periods with the TC unlocked. Be sure and tow with the overdrive off when required, this si good for the engine and transmission!

I remember reading strong recommendations to not tow with my Comp turned up because of the advanced timing. Anyone know how much or little is this something to consider with an Edge EZ as well? Is the box you have an EZ or Comp?

On a HY35 turbo increasing boost may not help reduce EGTs much because of the tiny exhaust housing. Best to swap out for a HX35-12 wastegated turbo off a manual-transmission truck at minimum, that will help.

where is your pyro sensor also, those temps mentioned above are pre-turbo, if you run in the 1200 range post turbo you're in trouble.

From my last Arson school I believe that Aluminium melts at 1350? (I could look that up for verification if anyone wants).

I have my SPA set to flash a warning at 1200 pre turbo.

I had an EZ and dd2's with a stock HY35 and I was able to pull the Ashlan Grade from OR to CA at 55 with 16000 lb cvwr . Could have gone faster but that's the speed I could hold 1200 and less on the pyro . Grade is 6+ %
