I dont think that my heater on my 06 ram is working properly. I drove last night from laramie to cheyenne with the heat on the defrost/feet up as high as it would go with the fan on high the whole way. It only came out warm warm as in having bathwater sit in the tub for a few hours. In my old 02 ford running the heater like this would have chased me out of the truck? is this normal for the dodge or is something wrong? thanks

Could be the outside ambient temp or your truck. My 06' Megacab has no heating issues. I keep the fan on low with the temp turned down. Any warmer is too much for me. The coldest temp to date with the new truck has been about 30deg.

could it be a faulty thermostat?

Or an improperly operating coolant valve for the heater... or a door in the heating system that isn't opening up/closing.

Mine will cook you out (once it heats up) even at -25*F.

just got off the phone with the service guy in cheyenne he says to try putting on of those cold fronts on my truck and that seems to cure the "problem"? does this sound like a good idea for the winters anyways?

I don't run them and like I said... -25*F and hot, hot, hot. I think he is trying to avoid the issue... like most of them do (it isn't the trucks fault, it's the owners... ).

Try using the setting at the CCW extreme of the dial. It will recirculate the air in the cab rather than trying to heat the extremely cold air from outside up to warm in just one pass through a heater core.

you never mentioned if the engine was up to operating temp or not. mine normally is putting out a fair amount of heat long before the temp gauge hits the middle, but it is definately better when completely warmed up.

i know on mine, i must have it on the feet ONLY position otherwise i never get warm.

also, i made a custom deflector to fit over the outlet by the drivers feet to aim the air down. otherwise it just crosses over the ankles.

you should also try using only the 3rd blower speed. i have noticed that when on high, there is so much fresh air coming in from the cold, that it is not as warm as on the 3rd speed.

last thought, i wish there was a setting for feet only when in the recirculation mode. i have to use feet/face mode when sitting at a light or else i get too much diesel fumes inside.

hope this helps.

Yesterday I noticed mine did the same thing, driving in to work -3 degrees I had the blower on full blast heat all the way up and I was comfortable never got to hot, but usually it does. I was driving at 55-75 most of this way, but when I got off of the highway and slowed down to 0-30mph man did the cab heat up. So I think it has to do with the outside temp and speed you are driving. They do and have been making the front covers for the radiator for a reason specially in Canada.

I would invest in the front cover but it is rare that we get this cold.

I thought there were only 2 positions in recirc, and they both blew in your face?

That's right. In your face & In your face + a little on the floor

You for sure have a problem, once on the road & the truck should supply all the heat you need. Have used mine in -40 on the highway & toasty warm. Go back where you got it & throw a hissy fit

I live in a COLD place and winter fronts are a nice addition & do work well. You will get some people that will tell you that you don't need them. However all of those people that have voiced that opinion to me only visit where I live & do not reside here or colder places.

I bought this one from Fia. it is a combo winter/bugfront. They work great. Look here.

I think as the trucks break in, with 50k or more miles, they take longer to heat up. That engine is much more efficient with a few miles on it. It does not put out as much heat doing the same amount of work. That is what I have noticed with mine.

Mine doesn't do a very good job, either. I drive mine 26 miles (1 way) to work, and if mine is plugged in, I will have lukewarm heat, by the time I get to work.
