Question On My New 5" Exhaust

Their is a TSB for the 1-2 ,2-1 hunt I had mine done but they didn't have to pull the trans though. I think your transmission unlock at 3/4 throttle is standard. Wait for some others to chime in.

I just bought an 05 with the 48re, I am less than impressed. It has 53k on it and I noticed that it was doing a shuffle shift 1-2-1-2-1-2 under an every day accelleration of 1400-1600 rpm. I took it into the dealer and their senior transmission hey came out and took it for a test drive with me. While I started to explain to him what was going on he cut me off and explained exactly what was going on. He said it was not uncommon. He said the 2nd gear band was gving up, said scedule an appointment to have transmission pulled and that band and servos replaced. :{ Any one here have something similiar? I also noticed that in od at highway speed 60-65 the converter is locked if I start to accelerate to pass 3/4 throttle it unlocks the same as if I where full throttle. Is this normal? or more sypmtoms of the same problem above?

Well he's right about one thing, its not an uncommon problem.

My first question would be who's paying?

If its you, tell them to replace the gov solenoid and transducer, adjust the 2nd gear band and quit trying to hose you. If that does not cure it or make a difference you could have some internal issues. Generally, its not the band thats the problem. It could be a whole series of things that leads to band apply but usually its the solenoid and transducer. There are also a couple of add-on electronics that are especially designed for the 1-2 shuttle shift.

If they are paying, tell 'em to have at it and keep taking it back until it is perfect. By the time they get done chasing issues you should have a new transmission. ;)

As for the other issue, it not only unlocks but downshifts to drive and hits the governor. Most annoying trait for sure, but, perfectly normal. Just the ECU trying to protect drive train from getting hammered. Usually if you roll into the throttle and not stab it you will have better luck holding OD, at 70 mph it should hold well even with a heavy foot.

The cure is more power and a slower acceleration, or, a lockup switch. However, either one is just about going to guarantee you need to address a couple transmission issues or there will be problems.

Thanks for the feed back and tips. I hope they pay, we are working out some warranty issues right now. I bought the vehicle second hand with one of the conditions being that there was an additional 100k bumper top bumper. I called the dealer before I bought it and confirmed that it had one. I tried to change it over the phone to my name and they said no you have to come in personally and change it. So a month later I do and now they can't find anywhere that it had that 100K warranty:mad: Any way, they are researching it and will get back hopefully soon. If not I guess I will be calling Dave Georend. Thanks again for the input.

2003 transmission

My 2003 transmission has been very good, the transmission has 100,000 miles on it. It life consists of some towing and mostly off-road driving. 3 of the fellows I work with have had trouble with their Allison trannies ( 2 seals and one pump).

Mine has 92,000 km on it with no issues with my 05. I put a 410L fuel tank in the box and the 1-2-1-2-1-2 gear hunt went away instantly when full of fuel.

I had the goofy flutter shift as well. First Ddge replaced the Hyd. pressure transducer inside the pan, then it still didn't work. I was told it was the valve body so I bought a bone jarring suncoast valvebody. It fixed the prob, plus locks converter in second if I manual override shift to 2. I find myself lifting off the pedal to reduce the slam-shift, but it definitely lets you know when you are in all 4 gears! COnverter is loose, but designed that way for warranty appeasement. my stock converter is still great at 120k miles with a long life of towing 5-6k lbs. Valve body replaced at 120k miles. I do find myself wondering about how a Goerand valvebody would shift! I can't believe it shifts this hard! It is starting to make the drivetrain clunk, but boy does it work good at the track! Had a tst on it before I got it I think, now I use a bullydog t-dog on performance setting, mostly no towing and running empty.

I just got my Goerend. It shifts smooth but tight. No harsh shifting. What a difference from the old stock trans. No more lurch going into overdrive because of the old two stage 3rd and 4th. You know... third... lockup, fourth, lockup. Now it feel like it just hits third than hits fourth.

I had the 1-2, 2-1 shift hunt issue, if you can call it that -- it was mostly just annoying and happened ONLY in stop and go under slight throttle. Since I knew there was a TSB out on it I asked the dealer to look @ it and sure enough they performed the TSB and I think replaced the gov. solenoid. That was at my 48re's 30K service. Now havew 33K. This is my daily driver, and I haul my camper at least 1X/month, usually 2+ and tow a 3K lb boat or trailer every other time I haul the camper.

Trans is a dream ... . seriously, I love it when it's hooked up and ready for work; works flawlessly when it matters MOST! Dreamy shifts, buttery smooth, love when that TC locks up, nice and smooth. Esp. love the tow/haul mode, it kicks ***. Does the job it was designed to do. Dreamy on the interstate all loaded up. I wish I had a few more ponies on the steepest grades and with a headwind (my camper is tall and offers up some serious wind resistance) so I could avoid the upshift outa overdrive. The upshift doesn't happen often, but it does happen occasionally (call me picky). Then again, I can't complain, last summer we went on a 3K mile trip east to Wyo. with the camper and a small trailer and it came outa overdrive I swear maybe 20 times. I guess the local mountains where we normally drive, and see upshifts, (over I-90 and the WA Cascade Mtns) are real steep and windy grades! All in all, love this truck.
