So is your current lift pump giving you problems? If not, why spend the $$ to fix a non-problem.

My '03 still have the filter mounted pump, and is going strong at ~125,000 miles. When it does fail, the replacement is cheap and much easier to change out than the tank mounted pump.

You are correct, if the in tank fails its Tow charge, tank removal charge and the 375 for the in tank module $800+, Some have had premature failures for the canister mounted pump but in most cases they will live 5+ years and at $160 for pump that can be change in 30 minutes in a parking lot NO THANKS on the In tank Pump, the shop just remove 1 form and 03 Monday.. had 325K on that pump, with bypass filtrations. My 03 I 1 pump canister style change only in 10 years.

Just a reminder that just about EVERY car and truck built in the last 20+ years have had an in tank pump. If they are that bad you would see cars every mile on the side of the road waiting to be towed.

Thanks everyone. Got the old girl home today. Bummed a ride to town this morning, ran errands all over town with it, and drove 90 miles home. Ran great. Swung by the diesel shop and picked up a couple Baldwin fuel filters. Will definitely take a hard look at the GDP system.

While it was in the shop I had them change the serpentine belt. I was still running the original belt that come on it in '03. The old belt is now in the tool box for a spare, along with the canister mounted replacement pump I had rattling around in there.

Thanks again for all your input.

Its not that they prematurely fail, it when they do it cost 100s more to R/R..... I had Chris check the ratio from 13 Stores average 47 in tank pump replace Per Month with 23 being towed. remember this is all vehicles Gas/Diesel. By the way MY new 13 Ram in tank pump lasted 238 Miles, I replace it with New in tank given to Me form the dealer under warrant and added 2 additional lift/bypass canister pumps. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/threads/243714-Truck-left-me-stranded-with-codes Post #9

The CP3 has a GP that produces 25HG and will pump 200GPH, it will easily out perform any in tank pump, ALL in tank pumps are designed for gas Low-pressure injections, The CP3s running temps are 130-170* at 1 LPM return at 1500RPMs when you drop your fuel tank below 1/4 in hot temp you are killing your in tank Pump on all CR Diesels. don't let you in tank pump drop below 1/4 or even better yet 1/3 when driving for any length of time in temp above 80*.

I think the in-tank gasoline fuel pumps that expire early are victims of the same treatment. People that constantly run around with the low fuel light on and put $5.00 woth of gas in at a time seem to have way more in-tank fuel pump issues.

Not in my case. I always drive on the top half of the tank while traveling. When not traveling, I almost always am in the top 1/3 of the tank. Also, I always use stanadyne.

You answered my question, TCDiesel... which one is cheaper to install? THANKS!
