A while back, Bosch introduced a VP44 that is supposed to last longer as a result of failures on Fedex trucks. I was wondering if folks were having better luck with the upgraded pumps, when did you install, and how many miles do you have?
Jetpilot said:All pumps should now use the "FedEx" module or even the newer version released in the begining of the year. All the modules are the same contrary to data published elsewhere. As long as the rebuilder doesn't have extremely old stock you should at least get the FedEx version and some shops will even have the newest version released this year.

REV 027 98. 5 to '02 SO trucks or ETC's
REV 028 '01 '02 HO 6pd ETH's
REV 029 "The so called Fed Ex pump" Otherwise found in RV's and other commercial rigs.
REV 030 This is the latest and greatest.
Now there are a couple of things with our VP's that I seem to know. Those of you that have the 027 pump and get a reman still get a 027 programed pump with the 029 PSG in it, or now it could be the 030.
If you have a true Fed Ex pump, well I will tell you that you can only get it to rev to 2700rpm no matter what box you have on it. I know I have been testing these things for a couple of years now.
The PSG is different than the programing of the pump. In June I sent in a core that was a true 029 pump and core refund to the customer was reduced, reason being it was a true 029 pump, meaning that there is not a big demand for them from the RV crowd. The pump did come out of a 98. 5 2500 truck, this 029 pump will work in a SO truck, but not in a ETH.
Maybe what happens with the Hot Rod pump will help clear things up..... because it works in all trucks right? Yep it does, because it is a 028 pump with the 029 PSG or the new 030 PSG in it now. Reason it works in both the ETC and the ETH is that again it is a ETH pump, and the ETC has always been able to run a HO VP on it, just not the other way around.
So now for those of you that have bought re-man pumps, yes you have the latest in electronics, but if you have a 027 pump, and it craps out, you still get a 027 back, just with the new 029 or the 030 PSG. That's it in a nut shell. So if you do have a true "Fed-Ex" pump, there is no benefit from it other than your truck will defuel at 2700rpm, no matter what fueling box you have on it. I have confirmed this on the dyno as well as with a Bosch service shop.
Hope I didn't confuse anyone too much, later Jim.

i want to put in a VP with bigger plungers, but with no timing modification. this way i can make use of the biggest injectors available.
my HO with its advanced timing, plus the added timing of my comp is too much when the temperature falls below freezing.
