I'm just curious. My VP just died at 130K and it has been tapped since 90K. I'm getting a new one installed and I'm tapping the wire again. I realize it voids the warranty but how much fun would it be without the wire tap?

My truck has 132K on it and has been tapped since around 90K, original VP. Hope that doesn't mean mine is gonna die soon... lol. . I agree, i dont know if i could live without the wire tap!!!

150,000 w/ tap.

When I got the new pump (Diesel Injection Service, thanks Brett!) I went with a Van Aaken that plugs into the VP and MAP sensor.

I'm perfectly happy with the power and MPG.

The VP will last longer w/o a wire tap IMO.

Diesel Injection also sells a hot rod VP performance VP too.

I think low lubricity and high operating temps kill more VP's then the tap though.

Thanks to Bob I have a fuel pre-cooler and rarely see pump temps >130F, even in the summer. The temps used to reach 160F+ before the fuel cooler and fuel filter insulation washers.

Texas Diesel,

I'm trying to understand the setup you mentioned above. Are you saying there's an alternative method to tapping the wire that uses the connector on the VP44 or something?

If there is an alternative method to tap the wire with an Edge Comp please let me know. It would be nice to keep the new pump under warranty for a year.

172,000 on my original VP, edge comp installed since 42,339 miles so just about 130,000 with the wire tapped. As a side note I use a stock lift pump and I've dumped some things in the tank that probably shouldn't have been.

The Van Aaken I use just plugs into the wiring harness going to the pump. The Blue chip mentioned just uses a pin to make contact to the VP fuel dump valve. The boxes that tap the pump wire (or the equivalent ones that use the Blue Chip lid) seem to have more problems. My Industrial Injection VP has a full warranty AS LONG AS the pump wire is not tapped or I dont use the Blue Chip lid.

Any box that connects to the fuel dump valve will potentially void your warranty because they actually hold the dump valve closed longer to inject more fuel. The boxes, like the one I have send "legal" commands to the VP to inject more fuel. In other words, fueling follows OEM specs a far as max injection rate, they just get to max fueling faster.

But you wont get the wheel spinning performance w/o tapping the wire. Lots of folks have both, I am just happy with RV275 injectors and my Van Aaken, str8 pipe and adjustable wastegate, and BHAF.

66,336 is when my VP died, last month, just replaced it. Had the wire tapped since 33,000 miles. Traded the Comp.

Original VP was fine took it out at 120,000 and installed a HRVP and now have 179,000 miles and all is good, I never have lost a VP. Boxes tested on my truck:

Edge Comp

Edge Drag Comp

TST PM3

TST Hot version

FMS

Always had a tapped wire since 30,000... ... . actually only thing that has ever gone bad on my truck that was not self inflicted was the APPS... . been a great truck, just had an idea what to throw out when I got the truck. According to Brad E from FASS I have one of the first few ever sent out the door... ... ..... don't know if that is good or bad. At any rate I have great luck with the truck and I know they are not all that way... ... since all I do is fix them or send parts out to those that are in need.

105k and 6 years on truck, pump tapped at about 8k if i remember correctly. Original VP and runs like a beast to this day. Knocking on wood now:-laf
