Happy Fathers Day

Can you say Lee Iacooka (sp?). When he stepped up to save the company I signed on. The man had a mission and for the most part he did it and saved Chrysler. Nothing beats MOPAR.

Since the day I was born. I was surrounded by Chryslers and Dodges. Then my Dad bought some Plymouths in the early 70's and that became my go to marquee.

So if I list my Mopars: 1974 Road Runner, 1976 Dodge Aspen, 1980 Plymouth Horizon TC3, 1984 Plymouth Turismo Duster, 1988 Dodge Shadow ES, 1973 Plymouth Scamp (still racing today), 1991 Dodge Dakota SLT, 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT, 2000 Chrysler Town and Country LXi, 1973 Plymouth Road Runner, and finally 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 (The Grandaddy). There were a lot of brand "x" in the middle there.

That's more vehicles than I have in underwear.

You possess all of these now? At the moment?

Raised around Fords and Dodges. Bought my first one brand new in '99 and have had a few since. I guess I've been a supporter since childhood, though. Currently looking for an older wide-hood Power Wagon WM-300

Sounds like fun. Wayyyyyy back when I was 16 I worked for an electrical company that had one of these. It would top out at about 30mph but could pull Pennsylvania to the Pacific and back.

Now see, that just makes me all warm & tingly. there's a place in Wyoming that is "restoring" them for $200,000+

I guess their target market is less me and more Jay Leno.

This Mopar thread got me to thinking.....

In 1965 my father decided he wanted to visit my Aunt and Uncle in Santa Clara, California. And decided to drive. And camp out every night going out and coming back. And somehow talked my Mother and his Mother and Father into coming along. Brother and I had to go with by default......

The transport vehicle......1956 Dodge Coronet (I believe)

I do remember it looked like this...

Rented a 4' X 6' U-Haul enclosed trailer for the round trip. Stop every night at a campground and set up the tent. Take the tent back down in the morning and hit the road.

I learned how to pack and do it well as a result of that five week trip. A skill that has remained with me to this day.

My Mother came for a visit last Fall and she had her journal from that very trip along with a pile of pictures. I didn't know she had that stuff. Left it with me, I'll go through it and look for some interesting stuff to share.

Also why sleeping on the ground doesn't really thrill me much when camping, prefer the trailer with the queen size.....:D:rolleyes:

In that journal my Mother mentioned the car was not running well when we arrived in Santa Clara, Dad decided it was a valve issue and took the heads off in my Uncle's driveway, sent them to a local machine shop and then put it back together. Probably he didn't mind working outdoors in California compared to working outdoors in Maine.....;)

They are actually in Driggs, ID. Pretty close to Jackson though. I've "spent" a little time at their shop.
