How long should I let my oil drain?

Pre-Lube pump plumbed into the inlet side of the filter solves both problems. :-laf Spin the filter on dry and enjoy 30+ PSI oil pressure before the "wait to start" light goes out.

I believe in doing things right, but I don't believe in overkill. Draining the crankcase overnight is overkill. I believe that 30 minutes to drain oil is enough. I would like to see some concrete evidence that overnight drains are better for any engine.

Don't think there is evidence one way or the other on over night drain vs 30 minute. I is more what you are comfortable with. I drain overnight because it is convenient for me and it makes me feel better. I is like priming the oil filter; should you or shouldn't you? I doubt there is evidence that one is better than the other still I prime the filter makes me feel better.

Good response. I don't feel comfortable leaving my truck without oil overnight because I might forget to put the oil in it the next morning and drive off with no oil. I also believe in prefilling the oil filter.

About as long as it takes to spin off the old filter, pre-fill, lub the gasket, and spin it back on.



If pre-filling with brand new oil destroys an engine, you better get a better oil.

if you don't get your hands dirty when working on your Cummins, I admire you!



all it takes is a little piece of dirt or lint to clog a cooling nozzle... that won't come from a new jug of oil, but it could certainly fall in the filter while pouring oil in it
