How long should it take?

Sounds like turbo bark, and it is normal on a stock truck. If the conditions are right you can make it do it. Your dealer wasted a perfectly good turbo. The aftermarket intake makes it louder.

With my '03 completely stock (before injectors, Smarty, air intake, exhaust, etc... ), I remember going up HWY26 (Mt. Hood) pulling the 5er under full power and having to abruptly lift off the throttle due to someone cutting me off in the right lane and I just about wet my pants when I heard the turbo "bark". I thought I broke something for sure... Did it quite a few times before I understood what it was and how to limit/prevent it.

Different turbo than the newer trucks. The HE351 is a lot less susceptible to bark and surge under stock power.



I could never make the stock trubo on my 05 bark and I tried it many times. Not until I added a boost fooler would it even attempt even a little surge at WOT throttle under a load. I did not baby it either with more than a few shifts to OD lock under a load at 3100 rpms, plus, high speed quick lifts off the throttle.



The stock fueling and WG settings will not allow much if anything until they get modified



Never got a true "bark" until I added a Smarty. That happened 5 minutes after I loaded the Smarty. :-laf

Quite likely it is but until we could hear it not sure. If you could get a video and sound and post thru photo bucket it would help.
