how long will a 68RFE last

My 2016 lasted 4400 miles yes only 4400 miles. They said the clutches went out. I tow a 8000 pound trailer most of the time but I hope after they rebuilt this one it will last longer.

I would hope on a truck that new you got another NEW not reman transmission.

Thats what im arguing with ram's customer care is why did the dealer rebuilt it vs replacing it.

I'd be extremely surprised if your dealership rebuilt it, most likely a certified reman. May be ok if it carries the original warranty but I'd still fight for a new unit.
Hopefully Bob or Sag chimes in on this one.

I said the same thing and so did ram They said the clutches were most likely bad from the get go and rebuilt it, its the original case still, but I wasn't happy with that. Not sure if im better off with them rebuilding it or replacing it.

For a failure at 4400 miles, I would assume one particular part failed. What went wrong? Do you remember what the fault codes were?

Not necessarily intending to take this thread off topic, but is there any advantage to the 68rfe over the Aisin beyond the initial cost savings? We talk often of the advantages of the Aisin, but is there any application where the 68rfe would be preferred?

AISIN is a True Medium Duty trans as it is used in many other Medium Duty applications. You get more HP and TQ with higher towing capacities.

68 is a good trans but after owning both I would take the AISIN, love the lower starting gears as it gets my 35K combined load rolling easily even on grade.

the 68 is cheaper to maintain and its scheduled service intervals are longer than the Aisin, plus the 3k difference in price. so its probably a wash depending on what you are doing with the truck. the truck in the title post is used commercially to haul custom and classic cars, guy does it for a living and you see he didn't get the Aisin... so I guess it depends on what you want to do or what your prefernces are.. my truck has a 21000 pound tow rating with the 68 and my trailer weighs in at maybe 11.5 to 12k. I'm good to go.
