Being you ladies and gentlemen have been there done that, I'm kinda wondering something. I've read threads uppon threads uppon threads on trans stuff. My question is this. I have a 1996 3500. I've put in a #6 plate, all the way forward, turbo housing so I'm pushing 34lbs of boost. I've put in the Suncoast Valve body, and Mystery switch controler. I'm also working on putting in the Suncoast converter. Any ideas how long my otherwise stock trans will last? I need to put injectors in the truck anyway, so I want to go bigger. (370's sound nice) Am I asking for trouble?

Josh

Installing 370's is asking for trouble..... my transmission hated life before the 370's and REALLY hated life after them.

Now my transmission is happy... . and so am I!

I can say with a reasonable amount of confidence that your lockup clutch is going to suffer... . some suffer more than others.

When my transmission came apart after my type of abuse... . nothing out of the ordinary was bad inside of it. A regular old non-high-performance transmission shop probably would have slapped it all back together, put in a new TC, bolted it up, filled it up, and sent it on it's merry way. That statement is not meant to discredit the abilities of an ordinary transmission shop.

transmission life

On my 96 3500 after about 225,000 miles on the tran I had the stock plate slid forward, very mild increase, at about 240,000 or so the T C started slipping when going up a slight incline while pulling trailers, taking it out of cruise control while climbing got me around the slipping for a while. Then it started slipping while running without a trailer so at about 275,000 I went the DTT route, very good decision. Stormy

Josh;

I suggest you call Goerend's Transmission in St. Lucas, IA. If your transmission needs repair Dave is the best place in the area to do the job.

I've got a 96 , 3500 as well and my auto went 70000 after I put a no 8 in it . It started slipping when pulling a load of about 12000 lbs. when accellerating under load one could feel lockup slip and then grab again . I watched it for another 30000 miles . then rebuilt the transmission and went with a triple lock from GBros. and the problem went away . :D :D :D

Right now, nothing is slipping. I'm gonna put the Suncoast converter in it and hopefully it'll last a while. Right now I don't have the cash to break/repair the trans. This thing is my daily driver. I wish I would have joined TDR BEFORE I started buying/modifying stuff. Oh well, live and learn.
