I was all set to go camping last week and while driving to meet my buddy at his house, my 03 started acting up.

First is stumbled a little and then as I was driving it would lose power but it would come right back. It did this about 4 times in the 5-6 miles to his house.

I'm assuming it's the lift pump (57,000 mi) and have an appointment on Tue to have the FASS system installed.

My problem is that I have a 5k lb 11 1/2' camper on back of the truck. It is about 40 miles to the shop and I don't want to get stranded on the freeway with the camper. With just the truck I can call AAA with the 100 mile tow service I have, or even have them come to his house and not drive it. I can drop the camper in the street and it should be okay for a day or 2. Or better I can leave it at one of our fire stations about 2 miles away.

What are the odds of the lift pump getting me at least 2 miles to the station or better, 40 miles to the shop?

Also, what is the price for the FASS system?

Thanks and I'll find out for sure on Mon or Tue.

My choice is to drive to the station, drop the camper and chance driving the truck to the shop and have AAA as my backup.

You can run a hose with an inline filter from the metal fuel line on the frome directly to the injection pump and drive it where you need to go.

Thanks for the info. I don't have the truck right now so what tools will I need and what size and length of hose?

Is it pretty obvious were the connections are?

If the injection pump draws the fuel, why won't it pull it through the lift pump. I know on the 2cnd gen, it will still run with a bad lift pump but will cause the inj pump to fail prematurely. My understanding on the 03 is when the lift pump fails, the truck dies and won't run.

You need about 5 ft of 3/8 hose and an inline fuel filter 4 hose clamps. The injection pump can not pull through the failed lift pump but bypassing it she will run fine. I have recued a few 03-04 trucks this way. Beats a tow truck. You will need a quick release tool to pull the line off from the frame rail to the oem filter. It is the same type tool used on ac lines. Pliers to squeeze the clamps on the line at the injection pump and for the other hose clamps you purchase.
