i did a search and really didn't get a straight answer!

i had the first scotty air system on my 99(with the hole cut through the firewall) and man, after a few miles i wanted to cry it was sooooo loud! i ditched the scotty housing(it fell apart) and plugged the hole in the firewall. after that the K&N wasn't too bad. went to the BHAF and i bearly hear the turbo now. what i'm getting at is the afe unbearable like the scotty or is it tolorable like the BHAF? somwere in between? thanks..... james :D

I have no complaints with mine... it does make more turbo whine but it's mostly under accelration. Once at speed it's barely louder than stock... heck my wife notices and gripes about too much noise and she's never complained once.

With the radio on a normal volume level you can't hear it (the turbo) at all.

I sometimes hear mine on decel when there is something to bounce the sound off and reflect back to my open windows. On hard accel, I hear it pretty good, but cruising, barely notice it.

I have the AFE Proguard-7, with the Torque Tube and I, also, removed the silencer ring from the turbo. It's LOUD!!!. I've noticed people walking down the sidewalk in front of me, turn around to see what's coming down the street. Sounds like an F-16 coming at you. I kind of like it but, could easily see why some folks would hate it. I , also think removing the silencer ring makes it considerably louder. I think that if you leave the silencer ring in and don't use the Torque Tube, you will be fine. Frankly, I didn't notice any performance increase by installing the Torque Tube. My truck's pretty much stock, though. AFE and exhaust (4"). Hope this helps. Joe F. (Buffalo)

I just put in my AFE Proguard and can barely hear the turbo... don't have the torque tube though... had the Scotty III, it was louder by far, but not annoying... still have my silencer ring in... hope this helps...

Mine definitely makes the turbo sound noticable from outside. Inside with the passenger side window up, I really dont hear it. When someone rides with me that has a turbo diesel they make the comment that they hear the turbo whine, but I only hear it when the passenger window is down.

Now that I have the Banks exhaust, that is what I hear.

My torque tube has a hollow sound to it that makes the turbo pretty loud. I love it though. After about a week, I got used to it. Sure makes a difference on the low end IMO. It will surprise you how much turbo sound you will get with this tube.
