Any of you guys lucky enough to have a '03 have it straightpiped yet? How loud are they for a quiet engine?

I have yet to hear one that sounds like its missing a muffler in my area. :(

'03+ owners must not like loud, hence no straight piped ones (atleast no responses).

I think they should sound good, especially with a full 4" system, and less "motor" noise. Although the motor noise was a classic Cummins sound that I will sorely miss on the new trucks.

I heard one run on a dyno - It was plenty loud and (IMHO) sounded like s*#t, kinda like a ricer with a big tailpipe. I asked the owner what it was like on the freeway, he said "loud and obnoxious". It didn't post any significant numbers either.

Rode in one last night. First straight piped one I ever heard. In my opinion it sounded like a normal 24V, only the noise was all in the rear.

Don't know about straight pipes but I had the windows down this morning while accelerating up a bridge with concrete guardrails. The new muffler has a nice tone to it. I could actually hear some turbo whistle in the exhaust note. Then tonight while hitching up to my 5th wheel to evaluate my hitch installation, I noticed it has a nice tone at idle even. It's a whole lot better sound than came out of my stock '95,'98, and '01. 5. :D

I heard one a couple of weeks ago when I spanked one in multiple races. It sounds better then a Ford, but I like them LOUD, the louder the better. :D

Can't wait for stacks!:{

Mine is the stock muffler. It's oval shaped and alot bigger than the ones on my previous trucks. I like 'em almost quiet with just enough tone to hear the motor and turbo whistle. This one is just right for me. :D

Heard one this morning. I couldn't believe how loud it was. It must have been driving him crazy in the cab.

I was heading south on the elevated freeway. He was coming up the on ramp. The on ramp is separated from the south bound lane, not right next to it. His exhaust is exiting out the opposite side of the truck from me. I had the windows up & a tape in the deck & I heard it.

I thought it was a noisy ricer, but it was a different sound. It didn't sound familiar at all. Sure turned my head. Sure enough, he joined in the traffic & passed. It was an extended cab short bed. Yep, real loud.

I was afraid of that. I had an '01 that I added a ME kit to and it wasn't too bad. It still had the resonator. Recently I met a guy with the ME kit and no resonator, big difference. It was noticably louder.

My 03 has been straight piped since the week after I bought it. The 03 has 3. 5" pipe from the turbo to the muffler, and 3. 5" coming out of the muffler for about 3 inches then it bumps up to 4". I had to use a 3" piece of pipe to eliminate the muffler as I didn't know where to get 3. 5" or 4" straight pipe, then I couldn't bend it either.

Yes, it does sort of sound like a ricer... especially in the 2000 to 2300 rpm range. It also sounds *air-e* or whispy.

It is quiet in the cab when cruising... but under load, or under acceleration, it drones pretty good. not good. .

It's alright... . but I will be installing a 4" straight thru muffler and maybe a 4" kit when I get the chance and find a good one for the 03's.

Anyone know of one?

Turbo whistle

Test drove one as a promo offer to get a 50 dollar craftsman gift certificate. On this truck ,the whistle sounded more like a bad bearing:confused: The SOP impression I got was about same noise level inside cab when driven moderately as my present truck.

Mine is 02 that lost silencer ring. No BOMBs yet
