Figured I'd run the fuel level down and see when the light came on. Well, it did on my way home tonight. Drove about another 20 miles to the fuel station. It took 32 gal  Got to keep an eye on that gauge if I'm driving out in the sticks..... not much warning.

So, when do y'all's low fuel lights come on? Is about 4 gallons left right ?(right left... .  :-laf )

On my '99 the light came on with seven gallons remaining. I haven't had my '03 low enough to check it.

I've gone to more than a needle width below empty. Probably had less than a gallon left. I was towing my 5er on a narrow (no sholder) two lane road. Would have been bad if I'd run out.

4 gallons even with crappy MPG is still about 50 miles... but i guess you would want a better warning than that

On my truck, the low fuel light & chime happen somewhere below 1/8th on the fuel gauge. I just use that as a reminder.

When I put in the fuel tank vent kit, I had run about 20 miles beyond DTE 0 on the overhead computer... long after the low fuel light came on.

Still had at least 3 or 4 gallons in the tank.

If you fill the tank until you can see fuel (not just foam) in the filler neck, the short bed tank appears to actually hold about 40 gallons. The only problem is that, without the vent kit, it takes a loooooong time to get it that full.

Low fuel

When I hit 10 miles to go on my overhead I filled up. WHOA! got 34. 8 gallons in that dude on what is supposed to be a 35 gallon tank. The book says 8% reserve with 0 to go on the overhead. I am not sure if my gage is off or that tank holds over 35 gallons even without a vent kit. A 8% reserve calculate to 2. 8 gallons.

Is there a different tank for the long bed trucks? Mine is a reg. cab long bed.

Sean

I ran my long bed tank to dead on Empty and when I dropped the tank to install the vent mod, I overfilled a 5 gallon fuel jug with the 4" or so still in the tank.

Fillup after the vent mod came just short of 41 gallons.

According to the owner's manual, the short bed tank is 34 gallons and the long bed is 35.

If you fill it all the way to the neck, the SB holds more like 40 and the LB (by the reports I've read) hold about 41.
