How many added gagues do I really need?

I know I need the EGT, trans temp and boost gauges. If I get digital gauges, I can put up to three dual gauges (six total) on the pillar. Is there anything else I should monitor? I only carry a slide-in < 5% of the time. The rest of the time I run empty. What are you experiences with other things to monitor (assuming the dual gauges will let me monitor them).

Thanks for your help.

Without a doubt you have listed the top three since you have the auto transmission. My opinion, of a must have gauge with the 24 valve engines, is a FUEL Pressure gauge. With the reliability of the factory lift pumps in question, low pressure will be you first indication of a weak or dying pump.

I second the fuel pressure gauge. I wouldn't live without mine.

You might want to monitor pre and post Turbo temperature plus transmission torque converter outlet and pan temperature. It doesn't look like you have enough Bombing to worry too much at this time though.
You don't have to buy extra gauges to do this monitoring. All you have to do is add a couple of relays with a switch. Works great!

If I had to do it again, and hopefully I won't for a long, long while, I'd put in the egt. gauge in first, then the fuel pressure, next the boost and last whatever else you want, in that order. My lift pump took a dirt nap with 3200 miles on the truck. Luckily, I caught it before I damaged the VP44.

All this talk about the lift pump and such, now I'm worried. What should the fuel pressure be? Does it vary with RPM? And lastly, where are you tapping into for the sensor/ pressure tube?

You can tap right into the Schrader valve on the fuel filter for a lift pump reading. If the fitting your using for the gauge does not have the needle to "push in" the Schrader, you have to remove same to get an accurate reading. At idle, I was around 6psi's, at WOT... #ad
