How many amps can the 7 pin connector handle on an 05?

5th wheel position in 05

"Small" CTD RV?

I have an electric boat winch and it would be nice to be able to plug it into the 7 pin on the back of my 05' 3500, but I'm not sure how may amps the factory setup can handle.

I can't seem to find any specs on it, does anyone have any ideas?

thank you

Big

If you hook into the wire that is for charging the trailer batts it is a 20 amp mini fuse in the fuse box. I use the trucks power when storing my toy hauler due to the fact that I remove the batts to keep them on a trickle charger. The 20 amp connect can handle the power hitch to lift 1200 pounds of hitch weight.

Hope this helps you out!!!

No, no. You'll need to run a heavy gauge wire directly from the battery. You'll need like 8 gauge wire with a 60 or so amp fuse.

Thanks guys, sounds like I may be a little short on wire size from the factory install.

I was hoping one of you would say, "here's a link to the Ram spec page and it shows #4 is good for 60 amps".

Guess I'll have to run a heavy guage wire from the batteries to the rear bumper.

It makes the winch work hard now trying to pull a 6 1/2 ton boat up the trailer.

"Big"... I haven't been called that since my Navy days macdaddy, when everybodies name is part of there last name Oo.

I have installed a battery on a large dump trailer we run... . This battery will dump the bed, (run the hydralic pump) for 4 of 5 cycles before it runs down...

We charge this battery with the 20 amp feed from the trailer plug..... works for us...

On another truck we have an electrial plug that's used for electric fork lifts... . it will handle 400 amps. . no problem and we run 00 wire to the front of the truck and to the rear of the truck for HD Jumpers... the jumpers just plug into the plug and you can jump a car or truck..... from either end... .

good info

Thanks guys, good information, I'll print that page for future use Klenger.

That idea of mounting the battery on the trailer is a good one Jim, especially with that 40 amp charge circuit available.
