Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) How many bolts hold the starter on?

I was curious if there's supposed to be a bolt on the bottom hole of the starter? I'd take a pic, but it's pitch black outside.



I'm trying to figure out if a bolt fell out or there's not supposed to be one? I replaced the start contacts this winter, but I don't remember how many bolts there where.

One on top. Two on the sides (roughly)



The bolt closest to the drivers side kept coming loose on me, and I finally just honkered down on it with a breaker bar, and it's been fine ever since.

I think the lower one fell out then. I'll have to check if the others are loose too.



Any idea if that would be a Cummins part??

my votes for 3 also. i had the truck in the shop and i think they forgot to tighten them up. about 2 weeks later the truck would start sometimes and then not, come to find out all the bolts were loose and the starter wasnt grounding itself.

There's 3 on my 12 valve, 10 mm 12 point. Got mine from the 5 star place
