dumb question here. how many gallon fuel tank does the extended cab short bed have? i looked in my owners manual and it says 34 gallons. when i filled up with 1/8 of a tank it took about 25 or 26 gallons. not sure if it is a misprint or if i have the wrong tank.

No misprint, 34 gallon tank in the SB. The most fuel I've ever put in was 32 gallons after driving around for awhile with the trip computer DTE on 0 for a long time.

Not a misprint. The gauge is calibrated to reach empty or DTE=0 with 5 gallons left in the tank. This prevents you from running out. Don't count on that though, teh one time I did I ran out of fuel becasue I didn't take into account the suction may not be all the way on the bottom of the tank.

That's about what I experience. 35 gallon tank, run it to "E" and DTE=0 and it clicks the diesel pump nozzle off at 29. 5 to 30. 5 gallons to fill.

Never fill your tank until the fuel gauge reads empty or slightly below. When you do this you get the following benefits.

1. You'll save one or two extra trips to the diesel fuel station each year.

2. You'll make sure you are getting your money's worth out of each tank.

3. You will keep your lift pump operating at max performance as it tries to suck the last few pints out of the tank.

4. You will keep any sludge in the bottom of the tank mixed up and test your tank filter and fuel filter to their limits.

5. If you don't let it get below empty, how will you ever know how much fuel you have left and know when it will run out?

6. You will become a super TDR poster with all your knowlege about starting your RAM after fuel starvation and what mechanical items can be damaged (ie lift pump, injector pump, etc) when you let them run bone dry. :
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

thanks for the info and the tips. i'll have to see how many miles i can squeeze out of this tank of fuel! :D what is the most that anyone else has gotten out of theirs?
