Good Morning Everyone...

How many gallons of fuel are left... when the DTE on the trip computer says "0" ? I know it is several... I'm just trying to figure out which station to stop at, the closest which is the most expensive... or the one 10 miles down the road that is 30 cents a gallon cheaper...

Thanks !!:D

Patriot,

I'm not sure, but I have flown close to the edge before - and I didn't like it.

I was trying to stretch it to the next town when pulling my TT last summer. I went to the 0 mark, but made it. I think I still had 2-3 gallons left, but I don't want to push the edge like that again. I have about 7-8 gallons left when the instrument panel warning light comes on. I usually try to fill up before it gets down too low. I figure why risk it?

It is not a fun feeling to run out. I didn't flip teh aux. switch one time and ran out of fuel with the oem tank full. I had a sending unit replaced under warranty in teh aux tank. Light came on and I thought when I get up to speed I will switch. Wrong, the truck died and I had to call TXRam to bleed the lines and get her on the road again. It ain't worth it to save a few dollars.

The only time I have run out of fuel in this truck was with the gage reading over an 1/8 and the DTE far from 0. On the other hand the one time I really thought I was going to run out I was almost 20 mile from a gasser station when the DTE hit 0 and I think it had 3. 5 gallons left when I got to the station. That was the worst 20 miles I have ever driven.

I have another question along the same lines that I was going to start a threadwith. How much fuel have you used before your gauge stops reading full? Seems to me I have used 10-11 gallons before my fuel gauge starts to move.

Ted:

Cant say in gallons but miles for me is usually between 90 and 100 before it moves below the full line I usually fill her up pretty full.

I've come very close to zero before and when I filled up it seemed that there still must have been a few gallons left (I'd rather not risk it though). My wife on the other hand runs her Durango into the negatives!

How far have you gone on this tank?

You might want to just get a couple of dollars worth and then go to the other station (. 30 adds up:eek: ).

Jim,

The new trucks with the trip computer have a section called DTE: Distance To Empty. It calculates how far you can drive before you run out of fuel based on your average MPG according to the computer.

Handy little widget.

Why would you ever let your truck get so low on fuel that it would matter how far you can go when it says empty? The only time you have too much fuel is if you are on FIRE!!!!

DTE...

Don't trust it! I had 75 miles DTE and ran out of fuel. Filled with 36. 5 gallons into a factory 35 gallon tank! This has happened to me twice now. Only good thing is that I now know how to bleed the fuel system.

The fuel gauge can be at 1/8 and the tank will be empty. I go by total mileage since last fill up. Factory sending unit is FUBAR.

Mine must have 5-6 left...

I've run the DTE to 0 several times. Most fuel I ever squeezed in was 30. 633, clear to the cap. Once I stopped at home for a few minutes before I went to fuel up and when I restarted it said I had 7 miles to go. Musta made fuel while sitting in the driveway. I figure at that rate if I park it for a week I could fill the tank. Oo.
