i'm thinking of having my stock injecters HONED, and was just wondering how many others have had theirs done on there 3rd Gen. If so what did you go with..... Do you think doing the injectors is a good idea, or bad..... Is it worth it?

For those of you that VOTE NO... would you please explain why you wouldn't do it... THANKS i would rather be safe than sorry... Dont want to mess something up and start a big MONEY pit...

Had mine extrude honed last week. I no longer have smoke while merging onto the freeway. Immediately after the upgrade I towed the Jeep and trailer 246miles. I averaged 12. 6mpg at 70mph. The idle was smooth before. Can't believe it's better. I ended up with 82hp and 135lb ft tq addition.

I had DD3's (100 HP) and now 3-Flows (100 HP) from Industrial Injection. My previous pee-poor driving habits contributed to me majorly carboning up my DD3's so that is now why I have the 3-Flows. Otherwise, I would have stuck with the DD3's.

With stock injectors + box you can get big power that fully taxes your CP3. However, there is something to be said about the power delivery from injectors - and that's SMOOOOOOOOOTH! Most of the time I run with the boxes on the lowest settings, if that.

Can you explain to me why "honing" of the injectors gives the diesel more power? Does it increase the delivery volume capacity of the injector? Also, why are the honed injectors delivering smoother power (and solving smoking problems). I really don't know much about it at all.

Honed injectors improve the spray of the fuel into the combustion chamber so that it is atomized more efficiently... that's why it usually improves mileage. Of course, the larger the hone job, the more fuel is used, but still, can be very efficient with increase in power and no mileage penalty

By smooth power, I meant that it's just like stock power delivery without boxes. The only change is that the power delivered is higher. With some performance boxes the power delivery can change where sometimes it feels "peaky".

As far as mileage goes, I really can't comment based on my own experiences because I did lots of changes over a short period of time. However, if one looks at it this way:

... drive with upgraded injectors (after the novelty as worn off!) the exact same way you drove with stock injectors. For the same conditions with bigger holed injectors you are now injecting the same amount of fuel in less period of time (duration). This is in effect the same thing as advancing your injection timing, which has been documented to improve mileage as with the TST PMCR box (for example) or even with the older 1st and 2nd gens trucks.

Anybody that has done the Injectors on a 3rd GEN, what kind of mileage gains did you see afterwards? Has anyone ever had any problems with theres yet?

I think the as delivered package that this truck is is fantastic. I came from a '92, and this '04 is more than all the mods you could have done (in practicality) to the old girl. It's more than I could ask for, and I'm real happy with it. It kicks butt, is comfortable, reliable, gets decent (in my book) mileage, and can haul the family AND all the toys! Besides, if I want to go fast- I jump in the Duster.

Maybe, after the warranty is up, and it does need injectors or other work that I'll do myself, then I'll investigate a performance replacment. Otherwise I can't see messing with perfection!

We now have a BIG CP3 pump that will put a whole new light on 3rd gen mods. I have it on my truck and just with the Stage 3 injectors that I have now the increase is very impressive. I am going to be installing bigger injectors before we go to the dyno for hp numbers. The upper end of what is possible is also very impressive. We will keep you posted. Thanks

Ive got edm's and my truck smokes if you look at the go pedal, more responsive on the bottom and quite smooth though. I think to use my tst I will need one of II's cp3's.

Just an FYI - I have found and bought 2 sets of cores now on the internet.

One from EBAY, one from car-parts.com

And let em tell ya, its nice to have the extra set when getting them modded. Well worth the money

Not that I need more fuel ;) - nope, not me... .

Wanna let go of a set, want to get mine done, but can't be with out the beast for more then a day !! ;)

I hear ya!

The first set I found when a guy was parting out a cummins - I found the guy on car-parts.com

Once I get the second set, I will have them inspected and see if I can make some deals to use them as a swappable core situation... I would not want to sell them, But I dont mind helping out TDR members, etc

I would tell ya what I paid for them, But then you would kill me - Lets just say I have less them 1k for both sets, and one set is already honed (although that worries me a bit... )
