I have 42,000 so far on my BFG MT's. I rotate every 3,500 miles though. I have at least another 10,000 miles to go.

How do they measure the tread?

Just got back from wally world. There meter said 13/32 on 2 tires and 11/32 on 2 tires. Well... I had one tire change after 7000 miles when I got in a wreck. So i knew there numbers were not right. I have a set of digital calipers and took to measurements of the 3 original tires. average to tread bar is . 344 average to bottom of tire is . 384. 17/32 conversion is . 531. Divide the . 344 by . 531 and I get . 647. This tells me I have roughly 65% of my tire left or roughly 2/3. So multiply my mileage 15508 by 3 and i get 46524. So at this point I can expect to that for my tire life.

Now if BFG measures the tread depth from the top of the tread to the bottom of the tire. I have 72% of my tread left. That would give me an expected mileage of 55,385. Either way I think that is pretty good. Most of my mileage is in town. And when not in town I usually have between 1000 and 3000 pounds of Oilfield tools in the back.

So, Does some one know where they take the measurements?
